By Egbemavoice
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has called on Yoruba traditional rulers to rise and deploy their traditional powers alongside government efforts to confront the growing threat of banditry and kidnapping across the region.
Speaking at the grand finale of the 2026 Ifa Festival, he urged Yoruba kings to unite strongly and take collective responsibility in protecting their domains, stressing that insecurity has become a serious challenge that requires both spiritual and physical action.
He said traditional institutions must combine their ancestral authority, cultural values, and community influence to push out criminal elements, while still working closely with security agencies to restore peace.
The monarch also acknowledged the efforts of President Bola Tinubu’s administration in addressing insecurity but maintained that lasting solutions will only come when traditional rulers, government, and citizens work together as one.
He further called on religious leaders and community stakeholders to join in the effort to secure the land.
