RE: SOLDIERS BEAT POLICE OFFICER TO DEATH IN LAGOS,

Reports, The attention of the 81 Division Nigerian Army has been drawn to a story online over the  unfortunate incident that occurred between some soldiers and policemen around Ojo in Lagos resulting in the loss of the life of a police officer.  The Division is already in touch with the Lagos State Police Command to resolve the matter. This incident  is highly regrettable given the Division’s disposition and zero tolerance for any misconduct. Accordingly, the Division has instituted a Board of Inquiry to unravel the circumstance surrounding  the unfortunate incident  At the end of the investigation, anyone found culpable  will be made to face the full wrath of the disciplinary provisions.. Consequently, the Division wishes to commiserate with the Ojo Police Division and members of the family of the victim. D-CARES mitigating economic impact of pandemic, says Okowa

(Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa on Friday said the state's COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (D-CARES) Programme was to mitigate the adverse economic impact of the pandemic, particularly on the poor and vulnerable. Nigeria can't progress without restructuring - Atiku

Pray for unity, recovery of Nigeria, Okowa urges Christians

Former IGP, Tafa Balogun is dead

By Egbemavoice, A former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tafa Balogun, is dead. Family sources confirmed his death to Daily Trust on Thursday. Details of his passing were however withheld. Balogun was born on August 8, 1947, at Ila-Orangun in Osun State and was named the 21st Inspector-General of Police on March 6, 2002. On April 4, 2005, Balogun was arraigned at the Federal High Court, Abuja for stealing and laundering of over $100million in his three years as Inspector General of Police from the Police treasury. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) brought 70 charges against him. But he made a plea bargain with the court in exchange for returning much of the property and money. He was sentenced to six months in jail.

Iniubong Umoren: Court Sentences Uduak Akpan To Death For Murder

By EgbemaVoice, A High Court sitting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State Capital,  on Thursday, convicted Uduak-Abasi Akpan for the murder of  a jobseeker, Miss Iniubong Umoren. The trial judge, Justice Bassey Nkanang in his over 2 hours judgement also sentenced Akpan to life imprisonment for rape. He ruled that Akpan be hung on the neck till he dies. Miss Umoren was declared missing in May 2021 after leaving home to meet Akpan over a potential job offer in Akwa Ibom and was found dead days later. She was reportedly lured to meet the suspect over a fake job interview, while awaiting mobilisation for the compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme. However, the court discharged and acquitted his father, Frank Akpan and sister, Anwan Bassey (2nd and 3rd accused) who were standing trial for accessory after the fact to murder. Akpan reportedly attempted to escape shortly after the sentence was announced by the trial judge.

FEC approves $2.59bn for Badagry Deep Seaport project

…devotes N2.68bn for 60 security vehicles, gadgets for FCT, By Stephen Angbulu, The Federal Government, on Wednesday, approved the sum of $2.59bn for the development of the Badagry Deep Seaport project under a public-private partnership. The Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Sambo, disclosed this to State House correspondents shortly after the Federal Executive Council meeting chaired by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Sambo explained that, under a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer delivery system, the port would be operated by the private sector for 45 years after which it would be reverted to the government. He noted that the project would generate $53.6bn in revenue and create about 250,000 jobs, while making Nigeria a maritime hub in West Africa.
