The 75 new cases are reported from 8 States- Lagos (36), Akwa Ibom (15), Edo (8), Ekiti (5), Kano (3), Plateau (3), Rivers (3) and Kaduna (2). A multi-sectoral national emergency operations centre (EOC), activated at Level 2, continues to coordinate the national response activities.

Court Orders ASUU To Call Off Strike,

By EgbemaVoice, The National Industrial Court has ordered the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), to call off the ongoing Strike. Delivering a ruling on the interlocutory injunction filed by the Federal government, Justice Polycarp Hamman restrained ASUU from continuing with the industrial action pending the determination of the suit. Justice Hamman who is a vacation judge ordered that the case filed should be returned to the president of the Industrial Court for reassignment to another judge. The Judge further held that the industrial action is detrimental to public university students who cannot afford to attend private tertiary institutions. He said the Trade Dispute Act mandates workers not to embark on strike once an issue has been referred to the industrial court. Justice Hamman also upheld the application of the Federal Government saying it was meritorious and granted. Buhari Appoints Salihu Dembos As NTA Director General,

By EgbemaVoice,  President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Salihu Abdulhamid Dembos, as the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA). Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, announced the appointment in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday. He said the appointment is for a tenure of three years in the first instance. Until his appointment, Dembos was the Executive Director, Marketing, of the NTA. Dembos’ career as a media professional spans over 20 years. He has served as General Manager of two NTA Stations, in Lokoja and Kano; and as Zonal Director, NTA, Kaduna, among other appointments.

ASUU To Appeal Court Order Directing Lecturers To Call Off Strike,

By EgbemaVoice, The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) will appeal the ruling of the National Industrial Court which ordered the lecturers to call off their ongoing strike. Mr Femi Falana, who is the counsel to the union, confirmed this to Channels Television on Wednesday hours after the ruling of the court, saying he was preparing the grounds of appeal at the time of this report. The industrial action by ASUU has continued to take a toll on the nation’s education, especially the tertiary sector as academic activities in most government-owned universities have been halted for over seven months. The lecturers downed tools on February 14 over the controversy on the adoption of the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System (IPPIS) of the government as the payment system in the university sector, among other issues. NDDC: It’s Edo’s Turn To Produce Managing Director —Group,

Nigeria’s debt hits N42.84tn amid revenue crisis,

By  Sami Tunji, Domestic debt has pushed Nigeria’s total public debt stock from N41.60tn as of March 2022 to N42.84tn as of June of the same year, showing an increase of N1.24tn in three months, according to the Debt Management Office. This was contained in a press statement published on the DMO’s website on Monday. The statement read in part, “The Total Public Debt Stock, representing the Domestic and External Debt Stocks of the Federal Government of Nigeria, the 36 State Governments and the Federal Capital Territory, was N42.84tn ($103.31bn) as at June 30, 2022. The comparative figures for March 30, 2022, was N41.60tn ($100.07bn).” According to the DMO, the Federal Government was unable to secure any foreign loans in the second quarter of 2022. The DMO noted that external debt remained the same at N16.61tn ($40.06bn) from Q1 to Q2 2022. BREAKING: Dismissed DSS Official, 9 Others Paraded For Robbing Bullion Van In Abia, N10m Recovered,

By EgbemaVoice, Abia State Police command on Monday paraded a dismissed official of the Department of State Services, DSS Prosper Israel, his younger brother Chinwendu Israel along with with eight others for robbing a billion van loaded with cash,  EgbemaVoice reports In his confessional statement, Mr. Prosper Israel said he was dismissed from DSS in 2007 after his service at Government House Abia State ended in 2007 following the end of the then Gov. Orji Kalu's tenure.  According to the Ugwunagbo born robber, before he could return to his station, he was tried and summarily dismissed in absentia.  He said his younger brother along with his "colleagues" brought money are shared in his house and gave him part of it.
