Title: Your NHF Money Is Waiting. Here’s How to Collect It

For all the years in Service, 2.5% of your basic salary was deducted Monthly.
It was labeled “NHF” on your payslip.

Most officers retire and never ask about it.
But that money didn’t disappear. It’s with the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), and you can claim it with interest.

Here’s how:

1. The Money Is Yours by Law

The National Housing Fund Act says every public servant contributes 2.5% of basic salary.
When you retire, resign, or turn 50, you’re entitled to a refund of all contributions + 2% interest per year.

It’s not a loan. It’s your savings.
But FMBN won’t pay you automatically. You have to apply.

2. Check If You Have Contributed First before applying, confirm if FMBN has your records.

Do this:👇
- Go to the nearest FMBN office with your ID and service number.
- Ask for your “NHF Statement of Account”.
- Or try the FMBN portal at 👉 (CHECK THE LINK THE COMMENTS SECTION 👇)
- under “NHF Contributors”.

If your records are missing or wrong, fix it now. Wrong name, wrong IPPIS number, or missing deductions will delay your refund.

3. Documents Needed for Application.

Get these ready:

1. NHF Form 1– “Application for Refund of NHF Contributions”. Get it free at any FMBN office.
2. Retirement Letter from NCS
3. IPPIS Stoppage Letter – Proof you’re no longer on payroll.
4. Valid ID– National ID, Driver’s License, or Passport.
5. BVN Printout & Bank Statement– account must be in your name.
6. 2 Passport Photos
7. NCS ID Card,for example

4. Where to Submit

Take the completed form and documents to any FMBN State Office.
If you’re in the North, there’s one in Kano, Kaduna, Maiduguri, etc.
If you’re in the South, check Enugu, Port Harcourt, Lagos, Benin.

You don’t need to travel to Abuja unless your case is complex.

5. How Much Will You Get?

It depends on your basic salary and years of service.

Example: An AIC in NCS who contributed for 25 years on ₦35,000 basic will get roughly ₦380k – ₦420k with interest.
A senior officer with higher basic and 30+ years could get ₦800k to ₦1.5m.

If you took an NHF loan, your contributions were used to offset it first. So check your statement to know your balance.

6. How Long Does It Take?

If your records are clean, FMBN processes refunds in 30–90 days.
Delays happen when names don’t match, or deductions were never remitted.

If they delay beyond 90 days, write to FMBN Customer Care and copy the CBN Consumer Protection Department.

7. Important Warnings

Application is free.Don’t pay anyone “to fast-track” it.
If you are dead, Service next of kin can apply with a Letter of Administration.
Start now, even if you retired years ago.
There’s no time limit for claiming it.

The Problem: The Service never educates officers on this. You retire, walk away, and lose money that’s rightfully yours.

The Solution: Share this post. Inform retired Officers.

Check your NHF status today. Don’t leave money on the table.
