Chief Diplomat Marbo highlighted that unity across ethnic lines is essential for achieving sustainable growth and political stability. He called on the youth of diverse Niger Delta ethnicities—including Ijaw, Itsekiri, Urhobo, Anioma, Ogoni, Ibibio, and Igbo and others—to unify in demanding equitable distribution of the region's resources from the Nigerian government. Emphasizing the role of youth as future leaders, Marbo encouraged them to transcend political and ethnic differences, advocating for justice and voting for leaders committed to their future.
King Ateke Tom voiced concerns about longstanding economic and political marginalization by both the federal government and multinational oil companies. He praised the foundation for creating a platform to educate youth on peaceful, dialogue-driven approaches to addressing their needs, as opposed to violent methods.
Representing the Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Matthew Degi urged the youths to adopt non-violent methods in pursuing regional issues, stressing that unity and environmental protection are pivotal for sustainable development and future prosperity in the Niger Delta.
The event also included perspectives from other notable speakers. Hon. Faith Johnny, Director of Women Affairs, called on NDPYLF to promote women’s empowerment. Mr. Hero Columbus Sanga, an actor known for the Isakaba movie, stressed the value of peace for attracting development. IYC Chairman Eastern Zone, Comrade Datolu SoKubo, advised youth against divisive influences, urging them to support Niger Delta leaders. Comrade Rosemary Egbesu advised youths to reject violence during elections and not to be manipulated by politicians.
The summit featured cultural performances, musical interludes, and comedy, showcasing the region’s vibrant culture while encouraging a unified and peaceful path forward for the youth of the Niger Delta.
