Egbema's: Udo-Ofunama road abandonment hurts oil well communities, neglected by NDDC

By EgbemaVoice,

The abandonment of the Udo-Ofunama road project, which connects Egbema Kingdom's major clans, towns, communities, and villages, reflects a deep issue of neglect despite the kingdom's significant contributions to oil and gas production in the region.

According to the youth leader Comrade Mingo Meshach Saya Ogumaka, said, this road is crucial for the development and mobility of the Egbema people, yet the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has failed to complete the project for years, leaving the community underserved.

He Said, this situation showcases a broader concern of infrastructural neglect in oil-rich areas, where despite the wealth generated from oil and gas, critical projects like roads remain unfinished, negatively affecting economic opportunities, access to healthcare, education, and overall quality of life.

Mingo revealed that, the abandonment of the Udo-Ofunama road by the NDDC is understandably a source of deep frustration for the people of Egbema Kingdom, especially given the significant contributions the region has made to the oil and gas industry. This road is a lifeline for transportation and economic activity in Ovia South-West Local Government Area, Warri North local Government Area of Delta state, and its neglect is affecting daily life in the community.

To address this, the unbearable situation i consider this,
1. Media and Public Advocacy: Raising awareness about the abandoned project through media outlets, social media, and public forums by all sons and daughters of Egbema kingdom,

2. Engaging Stakeholders  Reaching out to representatives at the local, state, and federal levels, including the NDDC board, to highlight the urgency of completing the road.

3. Petitions and Protests: Organizing petitions or peaceful protests to demand accountability and immediate action from the NDDC.

He lamenting that, the situation has indeed reached a critical point for the people of Egbema Kingdom in Ovia South-West Local Government Area, Edo State, as the abandonment of the only road awarded by the NDDC has caused immense hardship. The Udo-Ofunama road is vital for connecting major clans, communities, and villages, and its neglect has isolated the people despite their contributions to the oil and gas sector.

It's clear that the prolonged abandonment of this road has deepened the frustration within the community, impacting access to essential services and economic opportunities. This ongoing neglect seems unjust, especially considering Egbema's role in oil production.

He stressing further that, Egbema Kingdom, being the host to several multinational oil companies such as Chevron, NPDC, SPDC, ELCREST, OML 40, Sarah Energy, Conoil, and others, should be benefiting from substantial development projects, including vital infrastructure like the Udo-Ofunama road. The fact that these companies operate in the region, generating wealth from its resources, makes the abandonment of such an essential project by the NDDC even more alarming.

The road's completion is not just a matter of convenience but a right, considering the contributions the kingdom makes to the oil and gas sector.

Ogumaka reiterate that, the people of Egbema Kingdom are making an urgent plea to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Senate president Goodwill Akpabio, and the Minister of Niger Delta commission minister Hon. Engr. Abubakar Muhammad , MD NDDC Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, to quickly address the abandonment of the Udo-Ofunama road. This critical road, which connects several communities in Ovia South-West Local Government Area, has been neglected for years by the NDDC, despite Egbema's contributions to the oil and gas industry. Immediate intervention is necessary to relieve the suffering of the Egbema people and restore vital infrastructure. He said,
