He said, “Please note that from Lake Chad to Benin Republic is more than 1,600 kilometres, only God can effectively guard the borders. “So you need a person who has the energy and the competence to supervise. N’Delta coalition Exposes Critic's ex-agitators over claims in open letter to Tinubu, scores Ndiomu high

Twitter Facebook LinkedIn Share this post   Warri____ A coalition of civil society groups in the oil-rich Niger Delta region has said the open letter reportedly written by some ex-agitators to incoming President Ahmed Bola Tinubu was very “misplaced, fallacious and regrettable.” Consisting of the Niger Delta Solidarity Forum, Niger Delta Progressive Front and Coalition of Niger Delta Youth Movement, the coalition in a joint statement in Warri, the Delta state capital, insisted that the open letter was devoid of truth and could be inciting. According to them, the authors decided to supplant truth with lies, adding that “such must not be allowed to flourish in the minds of the people, lest they believe the concocted lies”. BETWEEN SAINT OBI's MARRIAGE AND HIS DEATH

By zik Zulu Okafor His social life was blunted. Perhaps by his reticent disposition. His persona, two dimensional. To a distant public, he was upscale and cool . His manly bearing spoke loud. His onscreen image ironically amplified some idiosyncrasies ; heroics, romantic adventures and traits that did not gel with the mortal privacy that eerily define his quiet and lonely life.   Saint Obi, real name, Obinna Nwafor, was shy, almost bordering on timidity and insecurity. He cherished the pleasantly tranquil interractions among a few friends. He would vanish at any outburst that could upset the poise of such small meetings. As he repeatedly told me, he just wanted to live a cool, quiet and fulfilled life. But, has he lived this cool and fulfilled life he envisioned ? I have my doubts. I tell Saint's story here with painful tears in my eyes ; because he was a star, a super star whose life turned out a gleam of irony .  Yet, it was this stardom that fetched him his much professed fin

Isaac Adaka Boro: A Man Meets A Nation

Akinrinade, left, with Adekunle at Opobo River. I was at Abana with Isaac Boro. By Owei Lakemfa ISAAC Jasper Adaka Boro was thirty when he was shot dead in controversial circumstances 55 years ago. Yet, he continues to inspire youths in the Niger Delta who were not born when his restless soul was laid to rest. He became a romantic figure frozen in youth and time; inspiring generations to fight for peoples’ rights. In this wise, he was like the romantic Ernesto Che Guevara and the inspiring Bob Marley, both of whom died at 36, and the fiery internationalist, Franz Fanon who died at 39. All four, captured in the youth of time. Boro Day, May 16, the anniversary of his death is commemorated annually in Kaima and as a public holiday in Bayelsa State. I was part of the commemoration this year. As I sat behind Captain Samuel Owonaru who was Boro’s deputy in the insurgent Niger Delta Volunteer Service, I wondered what inspired youths like him and Nothingham Dick, fifty one years ago

Isaac Adaka Boro – the revolutionary Ijaw soldier who declared the secession of Niger Delta Republic

Isaac Adaka Boro – the revolutionary Ijaw soldier who declared the secession of Niger Delta Republic A Neusroom special feature on Isaac Jasper Adaka Boro who proclaimed the first secession from Nigeria at age 27. Written by Michael Orodare for  Neusroom 28 August 2020 The January 15, 1966 coup led by an Igbo military officer – Kaduna Nzeogwu, altered the Nigerian political system. Fifty four years after the brutal coup and the counter-coup six months after, Nigeria is yet to heal from the consequences of the action of a group of aggrieved officers. The coup widely believed to be an Igbo coup against the north and other ethnic groups claimed the lives of Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Premier of the northern region, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Minister of Finance, Okotie Eboh, Premier of Western Region, Chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola among others while Nnamdi Azikwe, an Igbo man was spared. The list of casualties gave some credence to the claim that it was planned by the Igbos again
