Reverse the Unconstitutional Suspension of Governor Fubara, Deputy Governor, and House of Assembly Members
The Ijaw Community Abuja/Northern Nigeria expresses its strong condemnation of the unconstitutional suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the Deputy Governor, and the members of the Rivers State House of Assembly by the Federal Government.
We call on His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to immediately reverse this undemocratic decision, which undermines the mandate freely given by the people of Rivers State.
Under Governor Fubara’s leadership, Rivers State has witnessed remarkable progress, including:
A significant increase in internally generated revenue from ₦12 billion under the previous administration to over ₦25 billion.
Sustained peace and security fostering economic growth and stability.
Implementation of long-overdue civil service promotions, enhancing workforce morale.
These achievements underscore the administration's commitment to development and good governance. The suspension is not only a disservice to the people of Rivers State but also poses a grave threat to Nigeria’s democracy.
We urge all well-meaning Nigerians and global democratic institutions to stand against this injustice, as it sets a dangerous precedent that could jeopardize the sovereignty of other states in the federation.
A Call for Calm and Strategic Advocacy
To our esteemed Ijaw sons and daughters, we appeal for calm and steadfastness during this challenging time. While this action deeply hurts our democratic ideals, we must resist any provocation and pursue justice through lawful and peaceful means.
The Ijaw struggle has always been one of resilience, wisdom, and integrity. Let us channel these values into constructive engagement with all stakeholders at local, national, and international levels.
We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to defending the rights, dignity, and aspirations of the Ijaw people. United, we will overcome this injustice and continue to strive for a better Nigeria.
Long Live the Ijaw Nation!
Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
Signed,
Prince Somiari Ogolo
Chairman, Ijaw Community, Northern Nigeria
