Legal practitioner and human rights activist, Inibehe Effiong, has criticized Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, over his handling of the ongoing political crisis in the state.
During an interview on Channels Television, Effiong accused Fubara of failing to take strong legal steps to challenge what he described as a clear attempt to undermine his authority. He questioned why the governor had not approached the Federal High Court to contest the situation, suggesting that outsiders seem more concerned about the matter than Fubara himself.
Commenting on Fubara’s demeanor, Effiong remarked that despite the crisis, the governor appeared unbothered, smiling and dressed in white while leaving a church service in Port Harcourt. He went further to assert that President Tinubu had effectively removed Fubara from power, urging the governor to take a firmer stance and assert his authority.
Effiong also criticized the response of other Nigerian governors to the recent declaration of a state of emergency, stating that instead of taking action, the 36 state governors have resorted to issuing poetic statements. He expressed disappointment in their passive stance, arguing that South-South governors are divided and that the country’s institutions have been completely taken over by vested interests.
