OPEN LETTER FROM THE CONCERNED ELDERS OF WARRI FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY
DATE: 24/12/2025
TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, THE NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISER, INEC, AND THE NIGERIAN PUBLIC
DEMOCRACY UNDER THREAT IN WARRI: ELDERS ISSUE FINAL WARNING OVER INEC's DANGEROUS SILENCE
While we extend wishes of a peaceful celebration to Nigerians mostly Christians, it is deeply painful and indeed pathetic that we must again draw national attention to an injustice that has been allowed to fester unchecked. We write as elders who are frustrated, tired and angered by months of restraint, silence and disappointment over the evil and deliberate delay in releasing the final ward delineation result for Warri Federal Constituency.
To the Federal Government of Nigeria, the National Security Adviser, the Independent National Electoral Commission and the Nigerian public: this matter has crossed the boundary between delay and dereliction, between caution and conspiracy. What is happening in Warri today is no longer accidental, it is calculated.
It is crystal clear to us, elders who have witnessed decades of governance and institutional conduct, that INEC has lost its sense of responsibility in Warri Federal Constituency.
Fieldwork was concluded. Communities were verified. Geographic and demographic realities were established. Yet INEC has chosen to sit on the truth. That silence is not neutrality; it is provocation.
We state without fear or ambiguity that this delay bears the clear signs of collaboration with Itsekiri interests aimed at halting a lawful outcome they find inconvenient. This is evil. It is senseless. It is unreasonable. No responsible institution delays a sensitive and concluded national process of this magnitude unless it intends to create tension or appease ethnic pressure merchants.
We will not accept it.
Warri must not be used as a testing ground for institutional recklessness. Warri must not be sacrificed on the altar of ethnic manipulation. Elders have laboured tirelessly to calm nerves, restrain youths and maintain peace. But let it be understood clearly: patience is not infinite and restraint must never be mistaken for weakness.
To the National Security Adviser, we issue this warning in the interest of national stability: prolonged injustice is a security risk. When lawful processes are blocked, trust collapses. When trust collapses, consequences follow. No nation survives sustained injustice by silence alone.
To the Federal Government, history is watching closely. Silence at this point will be interpreted as approval. Continued delay will be read as endorsement. This is no longer an issue you can delegate away. Leadership demands intervention when institutions derail.
We are tired of excuses.
We are frustrated by silence.
We are angered by betrayal.
Our patience has endured long enough but our patience is for a time.
We therefore issue this firm and final call: the Federal Government must immediately prevail on INEC to publish the final ward delineation result for Warri Federal Constituency.
Do not wait until restraint gives way to resistance. Do not wait until history records a failure that could have been avoided.
The truth is known.
The work is done.
The delay is unjustifiable.
Publish the result now before it is too late.
