IYC Egbema Clan Regrets Support for Edo Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa Over Abere–Ajakurama Land Dispute,
The IYC Egbema Clan of Edo State, (Egbema Kingdom) under the leadership of Comr. Engr. Lawoni Dumofaye the Egbema Clan Chairman, issue this statement with deep disappointment and a profound sense of betrayal.
Our people stood firmly behind Deputy Governor Hon. Dennis Idahosa during his election, believing he would act as a voice of justice and a defender of truth. However, his recent comments on the Abere and Ajakurama land judgement have proven to be lacking in fairness, historical accuracy, and respect for the communities that gave him their mandate.
The judgement in question is not just a legal matter, it is an attempt to distort the truth of our ancestry and undermine our heritage. Instead of defending justice, the Deputy Governor made statements that dismissed our lived realities and aligned with interests seeking to erase the Ijaw historical presence.
We supported him with the hope that he would stand for what is right. Instead, his stance has caused deep pain and disappointment amongst our people.
As the IYC Clan Chairman from Egbema has emphasized, the Ijaw clan of Edo State will not forget this betrayal, not now, not in the next election, and not in the ongoing story of our struggle for recognition.
We are Ijaw people, we cannot give our land to any other ethnic group. Our identity is rooted in our ancestral territory, and our land is not a forest reserve. we have been here even before any other ethnic group and we expect all leaders and institutions to respect that reality.
Until fairness prevails in the Abere and Ajakurama land matter, and until our rights and history are acknowledged, we will continue to speak with unity, strength, and unwavering resolve.
Our land is our identity.
Our heritage is non negotiable.
We refuse to be silenced.
