A prominent Niger Delta youth leader and advocate, Comrade Mingo Friday Sayami Ogumaka, has expressed strong sentiments over the growing political momentum among sons of Egbema Kingdom who have declared interest in key elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ogumaka described the recent political declarations by notable Egbema leaders as a “long overdue awakening,” stating that the people of Egbema are determined to actively participate in the political process and ensure fair representation in governance.
The youth leader particularly commended High Chief Promise Lawuru and Comrade Daniel Peres Ezekiel for declaring their intentions to contest for the Warri Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.
He also applauded Hon. Raphael Egbuwa for stepping forward to contest the Ovia South-West Local Government Area Chairmanship position in Edo State, describing the move as a bold step toward strengthening Egbema’s political presence in the state.
Similarly, Ogumaka praised Hon. Benjamin Kukuru aka Ebis and Comrade Moses Ugular for indicating interest in the Delta State House of Assembly seat representing Warri North Constituency.
According to Ogumaka, the recent declarations signal a new political consciousness among Egbema youths and stakeholders who are determined to ensure their voices are heard in both Delta and Edo States.
He noted that since the return of democracy in 1999, key political positions within the Warri Federal Constituency, including the House of Representatives seat, Delta State House of Assembly position, and several local government leadership positions, have largely been dominated by other ethnic groups.
The youth leader explained that the political structure within Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State and Ovia South-West Local Government Area of Edo State, where Egbema communities are located, involves multiple ethnic nationalities including the Ijaw, Itsekiri, Urhobo, and Bini.
However, he alleged that over the years, political power and opportunities have disproportionately favored the Itsekiri and Bini ethnic groups, leaving many Egbema communities politically marginalized despite their contributions to the economic growth of the region.
Ogumaka stressed that the emerging political movement among Egbema leaders represents a new phase of political awareness and unity aimed at correcting decades of perceived imbalance in representation.
“The new political wave we are witnessing today is a clear signal that Egbema people are ready to take their rightful place in the political space. Our leaders have the capacity, experience, and grassroots support needed to represent the people effectively,” he said.
He called on Egbema youths, community leaders, and stakeholders across Delta and Edo States to unite behind credible candidates from the kingdom in order to strengthen their chances in the forthcoming elections.
Ogumaka further urged political parties and relevant authorities to ensure fairness, inclusiveness, and equity in the political process, emphasizing that Egbema communities deserve adequate representation considering their strategic importance in the Niger Delta region.
He concluded by encouraging peaceful political engagement and constructive participation as preparations for the 2027 general elections gradually gather momentum across the country.
