A prominent Niger Delta ex-agitator and community leader, Chief Ebiware Owolo, aka Agbalakoko, Executive Chairman of Obotobo I Federated Community in Ogulagha Kingdom, has called on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to renew the oil pipeline surveillance contract awarded to Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited., Chief Owolo, popularly known as Agbalakoko, made the appeal while reacting to ongoing agitations and campaigns by some individuals calling for the termination of the company’s contract.
According to him, the Federal Government should not be distracted by what he described as “side talks, sponsored propaganda, and unnecessary blackmail” aimed at discrediting the achievements recorded by Tantita Security Services in the protection of Nigeria’s critical oil infrastructure.
The Niger Delta leader maintained that since the engagement of the private security outfit, there has been a noticeable improvement in the fight against crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and illegal refining activities across the Niger Delta region.
Owolo emphasized that the successes recorded in recent times are largely due to the coordinated efforts of the security outfit under the leadership of renowned Niger Delta figure, Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo.
He described Tompolo as a committed son of the Niger Delta whose leadership has helped restore confidence in the protection of Nigeria’s oil assets while also fostering peace and stability in the region.
“Sincerely speaking, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited has built strong confidence in the protection of Nigeria’s oil assets and critical infrastructure. The company has demonstrated capacity, commitment, and dedication to securing pipelines and curbing crude oil theft in the Niger Delta,” Owolo said.
He noted that beyond securing oil facilities, the company has also created employment opportunities for thousands of youths across host communities, thereby reducing restiveness and strengthening the local economy.
The Obotobo I Federated Community chairman further appealed to Niger Delta stakeholders, youths, and agitators who are calling for the termination of the surveillance contract to exercise patience and allow the Federal Government to take decisions in the best interest of the country.
According to him, every leadership structure or institution may face criticism, but such criticisms should not overshadow visible achievements and progress already made.
“There is no leadership anywhere in the world without complaints or criticism. However, what should matter most are the results and the positive impact on society. In the case of Tantita Security Services, the achievements are clear—peace in the Niger Delta, reduction in crude oil theft, employment for youths, and improved oil production which contributes to the growth of Nigeria’s economy,” he added.
Owolo stressed that rather than pulling down initiatives that are working, Niger Delta stakeholders should unite and support efforts aimed at protecting the region’s resources and promoting sustainable development.
He therefore urged President Tinubu and the Federal Government to renew the surveillance contract of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited in order to consolidate on the gains already recorded in securing pipelines and oil installations across the Niger Delta.
The ex-agitator concluded by stating that sustaining the contract would further strengthen national revenue generation, improve oil production, and promote long-term peace and stability in the Niger Delta region.
