DELTA HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY APPROVES DESOPADEC BOARD TENURE EXTENSION
THE HOUSE ALSO SCREENED AND CONFIRMED MR. COSMOS IGBENIJE AS A MEMBER OF DESOPADEC
The Delta State House of Assembly has approved a one-year extension of the tenure of the Governing Board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), following a request by the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.
During plenary, the House also screened and confirmed Mr. Cosmos Igbenije as a member of the Commission’s Governing Board.
In a letter read by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, Governor Oborevwori explained that the request became necessary following the expiration of the current board’s tenure in line with the laws establishing DESOPADEC.
According to the Governor, the extension is aimed at ensuring continuity in the Commission’s programmes and the effective delivery of its statutory responsibilities to oil-producing communities across Delta State.
Governor Oborevwori further informed the House that Mr. Cosmos Igbenije was nominated to replace Mrs. Cordelia Anyangwu, who resigned from the board.
The House thereafter dissolved into the Committee of the Whole for the screening exercise, after which lawmakers confirmed Mr. Igbenije’s nomination.
Following the confirmation, the Speaker charged the new board member to carry out his responsibilities diligently and in accordance with the laws guiding the Commission.
Earlier during plenary, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor congratulated Governor Oborevwori ahead of his third anniversary in office and prayed for God’s wisdom, strength, and guidance upon him in the administration of Delta State.
The Speaker also congratulated winners of the recently concluded APC primaries.
