Delta State Blackout Becomes Worrisome as BEDC, Government Remain Silent on Riverine Communities' Electrification — Comrade Mingo Meshach Sayami Ogumaka,
By EgbemaVoice,
The Niger Delta Youth Leader, Comrade Mingo Meshach Sayami Ogumaka (KingdomVoice), has expressed deep concern over the worsening electricity blackout across Delta State, describing the situation as unacceptable and particularly devastating for riverine communities.
According to him, the prolonged power outage has crippled economic activities, increased the cost of living, and subjected residents to untold hardship, while both the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) and the Delta State Government have remained silent on lasting solutions.
Comrade Ogumaka called on the Delta State Government to prioritize the development of riverine communities by including them in its electricity expansion and infrastructure plans.
He lamented that Egbema Kingdom in Warri North Local Government Area remains completely without public electricity, noting that there is no visible government plan to connect the kingdom to the national grid.
"We are tired of depending on generators and small power plants for survival. Riverine communities deserve access to stable electricity just like every other part of the state. Electricity is a basic necessity, not a privilege," he said.
He further stated that the electricity crisis is not limited to the riverine areas, stressing that many urban communities are also suffering from prolonged blackouts. He cited Mission Road, Jesse Town, Ethiope west local Government Area of Delta state where residents have reportedly lived without electricity for over two years, approaching three years.
Comrade Ogumaka urged Governor Sheriff Oborevwori's administration and BEDC to immediately address the worsening power crisis by restoring electricity to affected communities and implementing a sustainable electrification programme for underserved riverine areas.
He maintained that access to reliable electricity is critical for economic growth, education, healthcare, security, and the overall development of Delta State.

Comrade Mingo Meshach Sayami Ogumaka (KingdomVoice)
