Warri, _____ The Labour Party has successfully conducted its House of Representatives primary election for the Warri Federal Constituency, comprising Warri South, Warri North, and Warri South-West Local Government Areas of Delta State, in a peaceful, transparent, and democratic atmosphere.
At the conclusion of the exercise, Hon. Slater Omerasan Christopher, an indigene of Warri South Local Government Area from GRA Ward 5, emerged as the duly elected Labour Party flag bearer for the Warri Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Announcing the results, the Electoral Returning Officer for the Labour Party primary election, Comrade Peres Joseph Doyah of Tsekelewu (Polobubo) Community, Warri North Local Government Area, declared Hon. Slater Omerasan Christopher winner after securing a total of 3,500 votes across the three local government areas.
Breakdown of Votes:
Warri South LGA: 1,620 votes
Warri North LGA: 980 votes
Warri South-West LGA: 900 votes
Total Votes Polled: 3,500
Speaking after the declaration, Comrade Peres Joseph Doyah emphasized that political primaries remain the most credible and democratic means of selecting leaders who will represent the people in the Green Chamber of the National Assembly.
He noted that the successful conduct of the primary election demonstrates the Labour Party's commitment to internal democracy and grassroots participation.
Comrade Doyah further encouraged young people to actively participate in politics, describing it as a vital tool for shaping the future of both present and unborn generations.
"Politics remains the bedrock of sustainable development in our communities and society. The younger generation should see politics as a platform for positive change and leadership. Egbema Kingdom and the Niger Delta region should place greater emphasis on political participation and leadership development," he stated.
The Returning Officer also expressed confidence in the Labour Party's readiness for the 2027 general elections, stressing that the party possesses strong grassroots structures across Nigeria and remains well-positioned to compete effectively with other political parties.
According to him, the Labour Party remains open to welcoming committed and credible individuals interested in contesting elective positions under its platform, noting that the party continues to strengthen its structures at all levels.
He described the Labour Party as a people's party that accommodates all Nigerians irrespective of age, gender, or social status, adding that its growing acceptance nationwide is a testament to its vision for good governance and national development.
Comrade Doyah concluded by expressing appreciation to Labour Party faithfuls, stakeholders, national and state leaders, senatorial executives, the Delta State Chairman and executive members, as well as delegates and supporters from the three Warri local government areas for ensuring a peaceful and successful primary election held on May 30, 2027.
He commended all participants for their maturity, discipline, and commitment to the democratic process.
