Warri, Delta State — The National Association of Egbema Students (NAES) Worldwide has successfully held its congress in Warri, Delta State, drawing participation from students across universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education in Nigeria.
The congress, which took place at the former Egbema Gbaramatu Community Development Foundation office, focused on key issues affecting the welfare, unity, and academic progress of Egbema students.
Presiding over the gathering, the National President, Amb. Mathias Gorroh, charged students to remain united, committed, and focused on their academic pursuits. He assured members of purposeful and inclusive leadership during his tenure, while also announcing vacancies within the executive council and encouraging interested members to step forward.
He further called on leaders and stakeholders within the Egbema Kingdom to support the association in its efforts to promote educational development and student welfare.
A major outcome of the congress was a strong appeal to multinational oil companies operating in Egbema communities to intensify their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The students urged companies such as Chevron, NPDC, SPDC, Elcrest, OML 40, Sahara Energy, among others, to invest more in education through the construction of schools, provision of classroom furniture, establishment of ICT centres, and expansion of scholarship opportunities.
The association also called on the governments of Delta and Edo States to prioritize the establishment of higher institutions and the construction of modern educational facilities in Egbema communities, stressing that such development is essential for the future of the youth.
As part of efforts to strengthen its structure, the congress inaugurated a five-member Constitution Drafting Committee, mandated to submit its report within three weeks.
The event ended on a note of unity and renewed commitment among members to advance the interests of Egbema students worldwide.
