The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Western Zone, has called on the Federal Government, Edo State Government, NDDC, and INEC to urgently address key issues affecting Ijaw communities in the Niger Delta.
Speaking during the 58th Boro Day Rally held at the abandoned Udo-Ofunama Road in Ovia South-West LGA of Edo State, IYC Western Zone Chairman, Comrade Nicholas Igarama, described the road as “a painful representation of decades of neglect” affecting over 300 Ijaw communities in Edo State.
The group demanded immediate reconstruction of the road, completion of ward delineation in Warri Federal Constituency, recognition of Ijaw traditional rulers in Edo State, and renewed consideration for the creation of Toru-Ebe State.
“The Ijaw people are not second-class citizens in Nigeria,” Igarama stated, warning that continued neglect of oil-producing communities threatens peace and development in the Niger Delta.
The rally was held in honour of late Major Jasper Isaac Adaka Boro and attracted youth groups, community leaders, women organizations, and stakeholders from across the western Niger Delta.
