The High Court in Benin City, Edo State, has today, December 20, 2024, granted an application to restore the Chairmen and Vice Chairmen of the Local Government Councils to their respective positions. In a landmark ruling, the court also directed the defendants, including the Edo State Government (EDSG), the Governor of Edo State, and the Attorney General of Edo State, among others, not to give effect to the Edo State House of Assembly resolution purportedly suspending these officials. According to the Naija News understands that the officials were acting in the order of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike. It was gathered that the officials, on Wednesday, December 18, targeted the fence of a property located on Plot 416, reportedly owned by a Major General. However, upon their arrival, soldiers, who were in a vehicle with obscured license plates, obstructed the exit from the property, thereby preventing the enforcement team from leaving the premises, while issuing threats that someone would die that day.
