BREAKING: Peter Obi Condemns Nnamdi Kanu's Conviction, Says It May Aggravate Tension,

He wrote : "Kanu’s Conviction: At a Time Like This.  The news of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s conviction should compel every well-meaning Nigerian to pause and reflect. This is coming at a time when our beloved nation is facing severe economic hardship, insecurity, and the consequences of poor governance.  Rather than reducing tension, this unfortunate development may well only aggravate it.  I have always maintained that Mazi Kanu should never have been arrested. His arrest, detention, and now conviction represent a failure of leadership and a misunderstanding of the issues at stake.  For years, I have consistently argued that dialogue, constructive engagement, and inclusive governance offer the path to lasting peace. Coercion becomes necessary only when reason has been exhausted. In this case, I submit that the reason was not only not exhausted, but was probably not explored at all, or not fully explored. The concerns Kanu raised were not unheard of. The issues f...

N-Delta Civil Society Forum Faults N141.36bn Derivation Payouts to States, Seeks Direct Benefit for Oil-Producing Areas,

By EgbemaVoice, The Niger Delta Civil Society Forum (NDCSF), a coalition of civil society organisations drawn from Delta, Edo, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, Ondo and other states in the oil-rich region, has stoutly condemned the payment of N141.36 billion being 13% derivation funds to state governments in the October 2025 revenue allocation, describing the practice as "unconstitutional, unjust, and detrimental to the welfare of oil-producing communities". According to the Forum, Section 162(2) of the 1999 Constitution clearly mandates the 13% derivation as compensation for resource-bearing communities that suffer environmental degradation, land depletion, pollution, loss of livelihoods, and other socio-economic hardships resulting from oil, gas, and mineral exploration. The Forum expressed deep dissatisfaction over the continued transfer of derivation funds to state governments despite decades of alleged mismanagement, non-transparency, and failure to d...

EgbemaVoice Editorial Board: Nigeria’s Worsening Insecurity Requires Decisive Federal Action

EgbemaVoice Editorial Board: Nigeria’s Worsening Insecurity Requires Decisive Federal Action Nigeria is once again confronted with a troubling wave of insecurity that continues to claim innocent lives across several northern states. Reports of attacks, kidnappings, and violence carried out by armed groups — including bandits and extremist elements — have left many communities devastated. Christian communities in parts of Kebbi, Kwara, Plateau, Kaduna, and Borno, among others, have suffered repeated assaults, raising national and international concern. Security personnel — the Nigerian Army, Police, Air Force, and other frontline agencies — continue to bear the brunt of these conflicts. Many of the junior officers who risk their lives daily are underpaid, overstretched, and sent into extremely hostile territories with limited support. I Would Have Sentenced Nnamdi Kanu To De'ath But I Showed Mercy Because Of The Holy Book, Says Justice Omotosho | ABK News

I Would Have Sentenced Nnamdi Kanu To De'ath But I Showed Mercy Because Of The Holy Book, Says Justice Omotosho | ABK News  Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has explained why he opted for a life sentence instead of the de'ath penalty for Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who was convicted of terrorism charges on Thursday. The judge noted that the sentence for Nnamdi Kanu was the de'ath penalty, but that he had to show mercy because of the teachings of the Holy Book. According to him, the death penalty is gradually being abolished in many countries, while religious doctrines also advocate mercy. Quoting a portion of the book of Matthew, Justice Omotosho pointed out that Jesus Christ taught His followers to show mercy. Justice Omotosho further held that Kanu’s confinement must be in a facility suitable for his status, noting that the Kuje Correctional Centre would not achieve the intended purpose of the sentence....

Just In: Court Finds Nnamdi Kanu Guilty On Counts One, Two, Three

The Federal High Court in Abuja has convicted the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, on Counts One, Two, and Three of the terrorism charges filed against him by the Federal Government. The judgment, delivered on Thursday by Justice James Omotosho, marks a decisive moment in a case that has stretched for years and drawn widespread national and international interest. According to multiple reports, the court upheld the prosecution’s claim that Kanu used a broadcast to threaten violence against the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Justice Omotosho summarised the first count as the act of “committing terrorism by making a broadcast threatening that people will die and the world will be at a standstill.” He ruled that the evidence presented clearly showed Kanu instigated actions capable of terrorising the public. The judge added that Kanu “knew what he was doing” and was intent on carrying out the threats he issued, without regard for the consequences on ...

Delivering the ruling, Justice James Omotosho held that the PDP violated key provisions of the Electoral Act and its own constitution in the build-up to the convention. Issuing party notices and official correspondence signed only by the National Chairman, without the National Secretary’s signature a practice the judge ruled unconstitutional. Failure to give INEC the statutory 21-day notice before holding meetings and ...

Jonathan called them "rascals" in 2014

Jonathan called them "rascals" in 2014 Some are hailing Tinubu's experiment of democracy! To some it is not new and they saw it coming when the then President Jonathan warned us of these rascals in 2014 and the danger they posed to our collective survival and the future of this nation.  A President who sees party interest over and above the collective interest of the nation is a danger. A President who declared an illegal State of emergency because of an appointee of his government against a sitting state governor and the people of a state is a danger not only to democracy but the very survival of the nation.  A President who has no work but to superintend the destruction of the opposition is not only working for the destruction of the very fabric of democracy but himself.  A President who denied the killings of its citizens and played religious sentiment on 'who is also affected' instead of confronting the monster killing the nation is himself digging his graves...
