ELECTORAL GUIDELINES FOR THE CONDUCT OF IYC, WESTERN ZONE ELECTIONS 2018
Introduction: in the interest of fairness, equity and social justice in line with the laws of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) and deriving from the authority of the Western Zone Council. The following guidelines are issued for the conduct of election into the vacant offices of the Ijaw Youth Council, Western Zone.
1. Vacant offices to be contested for:
(a) Chairman
(b) Vice Chairman
(c) Secretary General
(d) Assistant Secretary General
(e) Treasurer
(f) Financial Secretary
(g) Information Officer
(h) Director of Mobilization
(i) Women Leader
(j) Student’s Representative
2. Electioneering campaigns must stop 24hours before election: any aspirant(s) interested to contest election into the western zone office must be eligible.
3. An aspirant must possess a minimum academic qualification of S.S.C.E or its equivalent.
4. Any member of the electoral committee proven to be campaigning for any spirant(s) shall be removed and banned from activities of the council.
5. Any aspirant(s) proven to have attempted to actually bribe any of the electoral committee shall be disqualified and banned from activities of the council.
6. An aspirant(s) must attach two (2) copies of his/her recent passport photograph to the nomination form.
7. An spirant(s) who fails to participate in the manifesto day shall be disqualified.
8. Any aspirant(s) who by himself or through acts of his supporters indulge in any acts of violence shall be disqualified forthwith.
9. Any aspirant(s) who submits fake credentials, if found shall be disqualified.
10. An aspirant(s) must appear physically for screening with copies of his/her original credentials.
11. Aspirant(s) must submit the following credentials in the order outlined below;
(a) Photocopies of academic qualifications
(b) L.G.A Letter of Identification
(c) Photocopies of Birth Certificate/Age Declaration/Voters Card/National ID
12. That an aspirant(s) must physically obtain the nomination form from the electoral committee.
13. The election shall be delegate election.
14. Three (3) delegates shall be elected from each clan to be eligible voters to the election.
15. Procedure for election shall be open secret ballot.
16. Counting of votes shall take place immediately after the last vote is cast and winners shall be declared publicly.
17. Swearing-in of the winners of various offices shall take place immediately after the elections.
18. All the clans shall submit their delegate list three (3) days before the election.
