Suspension of Elected Officials in Rivers State, An Unconstitutional Act__ Patriotic Movement Demands Immediate reversal

The Patriotic Nigeria Youth Movement (PNYM), under the leadership of its National Coordinator, Comrade City Kelvin Eferusuoa, expresses deep concern and vehemently condemns the recent suspension of the elected Governor, Deputy Governor, and members of the House of Assembly in Rivers State.

Comrade Eferusuoa described this development as not only a gross violation of the Nigerian Constitution but also a direct assault on the democratic values and principles that serve as the foundation of our nation. He emphasized that elected officials are chosen through the legitimate mandate of the people to represent their interests and to serve out their constitutionally defined terms. Any action that undermines this democratic process is a blatant disregard for the rule of law and the will of the electorate.

“It is deeply troubling that such unconstitutional actions are being taken against duly elected officials. This is not just an attack on the individuals involved but on the entire democratic structure of our country. Such measures set a dangerous precedent and risk eroding public confidence in our democratic institutions,” Comrade Eferusuoa stated.

The PNYM firmly believes that democratic processes must be respected at all times. While disputes or grievances are inevitable in governance, they should be addressed through lawful and constitutional channels. The movement calls on all stakeholders, including political actors, civil society, and security agencies, to act responsibly and to avoid actions that could destabilize the state or compromise the unity and peace of the nation.

The PNYM, therefore, demands the immediate reversal of this unconstitutional suspension. The organization calls on the judiciary, as the custodian of justice, to intervene and ensure that the sanctity of the Constitution is upheld. It also urges all parties to prioritize dialogue, mediation, and adherence to constitutional provisions as the means of resolving any disagreements.

Furthermore, the movement warns against the dangerous implications of political interference and high-handedness, which could lead to an escalation of tensions in Rivers State. It appeals to Nigerians to remain vigilant and to protect the hard-earned democratic gains of the country.

The Patriotic Nigeria Youth Movement reiterates its commitment to promoting democracy, unity, and the rule of law. It calls on all patriotic Nigerians to stand firm against any actions that threaten the stability and integrity of our democracy.

Signed:
Comr. City Kelvin Eferusuoa
National Coordinator, Patriotic Nigeria Youth Movement (PNYM)
