EGBEMA FOCUS GROUP CONDEMNS ATTACK ON IJAW YOUTH ABEKI IN WARRI
By Egbemavoice,
The Egbema Focus Group (EFG) strongly condemns the recent brutal attack on Mr. Abeki, a young Ijaw man and tricycle rider, as well as the gun assault on the Olabrakeopre Ijaw Warri Urban Community. These incidents, reportedly carried out by allegedly irate Itsekiri youths along Odion Road in Warri, Delta State, represent a reprehensible act of violence that threatens not only the safety and dignity of the victims but also the peace and unity of our region.
According to eyewitness accounts, Mr. Abeki was assaulted without provocation in what appears to be a targeted act against members of the Ijaw and Urhobo ethnic groups. We are deeply concerned by the growing reports of intimidation and violence targeting Ijaw people in Warri—particularly the youth—who have long contributed to the growth and stability of the Niger Delta.
The EFG calls on security agencies to immediately launch a thorough investigation into this incident. The perpetrators must be identified, apprehended, and prosecuted in accordance with the law. We categorically reject all forms of ethnic profiling, violence, and injustice directed at the Ijaw nation.
Furthermore, we urge community leaders, youth organizations, and stakeholders across Delta State to rise above ethnic divisions and collectively condemn such acts of violence. It is imperative that we foster peaceful coexistence among all ethnic groups in the region. The Niger Delta has suffered too long from division and unrest—now is the time for healing, justice, and unity.
EFG stands in unwavering solidarity with Mr. Abeki and his family during this trying time. We are committed to ensuring that this case is neither overlooked nor forgotten. Violence has no place in our society, and we will continue to champion the rights, safety, and empowerment of Ijaw youths throughout the region.
Signed,
Comrade Sayami Ogumaka
