Heartbreak: Female Aide to Nigerian Governor Allegedly Beaten to Death,

Chief Shimite Winifred Bello, the Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on Trade and Export, has tragically passed away.

Reports indicate that Chief Shimite was allegedly beaten to death in what is believed to be a case of domestic violence. The heartbreaking incident reportedly occurred on Monday, April 21, 2025, and has sent shockwaves across Delta State and beyond.

While official details remain unclear, close associates have alleged that her husband was responsible for the attack that led to her death. Her aide, Tameta Sunday, expressed deep sorrow on social media, accusing her husband of cutting short her life and the plans they shared.

Similarly, Hon. Oge Okonkwo also claimed on social media that her husband has been arrested in connection with the incident. However, these allegations have yet to be officially confirmed by the police.

Chief Shimite was a highly respected figure in trade, economic development, and tourism. She served as the Coordinator of the Delta State UNIDO Centre and played a significant role in implementing the Federal Government’s Social Investment Programme in Delta State. Her passion for African culture and tourism was evident in her documentary series, African Pot, which celebrated African cuisine and traditions.

She contributed to numerous international and national initiatives, including the USAID/NEXTT programme and the Lakaji Trade Corridor. Chief Shimite also held a position on the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Economic Change in Africa (FESECA) and worked as a contributing editor for prominent publications such as Daily Trust and Leadership, where she focused on travel and tourism.

Her death has ignited conversations about domestic abuse, with many calling for women to leave violent relationships to protect their lives. Friends, colleagues, and members of the public continue to mourn her loss, describing her as a visionary leader, a compassionate individual, and a tireless advocate for economic growth and cultural preservation.

Chief Shimite Winifred Bello’s life and contributions will be remembered as a testament to her dedication and passion for improving the lives of others. May her tragic passing inspire renewed efforts to combat domestic violence and ensure that no one suffers such a fate.
