Alhaji Ali Bukar Dalori from Borno State, has been sworn in as the new acting National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC),following the resignation of former national chairman Alhaji Umaru Ganduje yesterday (Friday).
Dalori, until his new appointment, was the National Vice Chairman of the party in charge of Northeast zone the comprising Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe States.
He would remain as acting national chairman until a new substantive leader is elected at the party’s national convention slated for December, 2025.
Our correspondent gathered that the former chairman of the party, Abdullahi Ganduje’s resignation was a fallout of the FCT Area Council elections primaries for APC.
It was learnt that the resignation followed intense pressure from stakeholders within the APC, especially from the North Central zone, who have repeatedly called for the chairmanship position to return to their region.
Ganduje’s resignation also came amid mounting internal opposition over his leadership style and the party’s internal power dynamics.
Ganduje, who assumed office in August 2023 following the resignation of Abdullahi Adamu, has faced sustained agitation from North Central leaders who argue that their region deserves to produce the next party chairman.
Sources close to the APC National Working Committee revealed that Ganduje, a former governor of Kano State, was persuaded to step aside as part of broader efforts to stabilise the party and strengthen its unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
