Okwuzi, Rivers State – Nigeria's Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Bobo Nwabali, has laid his late parents to rest in a solemn and emotional ceremony held in his hometown of Okwuzi community, located in the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The two-day funeral rites began on Friday with the burial of his mother, and concluded on Saturday with the interment of his father. Friends, family members, teammates, local dignitaries, and supporters gathered to pay their final respects and offer condolences to the football star and his family.
The double loss came as a deep blow to the Nwabali family. His father, Mr. Nwabali, passed away in November 2024 at the age of 72, while his mother, Mrs. Nwabali, followed just weeks later, passing on January 1st, 2025, at the age of 63.
The ceremonies were marked by heartfelt tributes, hymns, cultural displays, and a strong show of solidarity from the football community and residents of the Okwuzi community.
The Super Eagles shot-stopper, who played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s campaign at the AFCON 2023 tournament, was visibly emotional as he led the processions. In his tribute, Nwabali described his parents as his greatest inspiration, whose sacrifices and prayers shaped his journey to stardom.
> “I am who I am today because of my father’s discipline and my mother’s unwavering love,” he said. “They taught me humility, perseverance, and faith — values that I carry with me on and off the pitch.”
The occasion also featured a thanksgiving service, with clerics urging the family to remain strong and united, even as they mourn their irreplaceable loss.
As photos from the burial emerged, fans and well-wishers flooded social media with messages of support and condolence, celebrating the goalkeeper for his resilience during a difficult period in his personal life.
May their souls rest in peace.
