Egbema kingdom Road: Comrade Ebi Omawumi Laments Deplorable Condition,

Ajakurama, Edo State – The Youth Leader of Egbema Kingdom, Comrade Ebi Omawumi, has raised a passionate outcry over the worsening state of the Egbema Kingdom road in Ovia South-West Local Government Area of Edo State.
In a heartbreaking video clip circulated on social media, Comrade Ebi Omawumi decried the total neglect of the region’s major access road, stating that the lives of Edo State’s Ijaw people are in constant danger due to the inaccessibility of the road linking the kingdom to other parts of the state.
According to him, despite the Ijaw people of Edo State being an integral part of the state—actively participating in every electoral process and voting massively for successive administrations including the current Governor—they have been completely sidelined in terms of infrastructure and development.
We are part of Edo State. We vote in every election. Our people voted massively for the current Governor. What have we gained? Nothing. We deserve the dividends of democracy,” he lamented.
EgbemaVoice News gathered that the currently passable portion of the road was only made possible through a community self-help initiative to grade the road leading to Ajakurama—the traditional headquarters of Egbema Kingdom—as well as Ofunama and other surrounding communities.
Notably, the same road, known as the Udo-Ofunama Road, was reportedly awarded by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), but the project was abandoned. The construction company allegedly left equipment and materials at the site, which remain abandoned to this day.
Comrade Omawumi further revealed that just two days of rainfall are enough to render the road impassable, worsening the suffering of residents, especially those who are sick, pregnant women, and the elderly. He also highlighted the dire state of healthcare in the area, stating that the only primary health center available lacks a resident doctor and is grossly under-equipped.
Edo State Government must come to our rescue. Our lives are in danger. This is a call for urgent intervention before more lives are lost,” he cried out.
Egbema Kingdom, a major oil- and gas-producing area, hosts several multinational companies yet remains without basic road infrastructure, a situation the youth leader described as unjust and inhumane.
