AN OPEN LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA AND THE CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF...
Your Excellency, Mr. President, and the Chief of Army Staff,
I write not to slander, not to criticize, but to awaken your conscience to call your attention to the sacred duty you both hold over the soul of this nation. Today, October 20th, stands as a solemn reminder in our national memory. The echoes of 2020 are still alive. the cries, the confusion, the silence that followed the sound of gunfire against unarmed citizens who only demanded a better nation. The ground still speaks, and the blood of young Nigerians still cries for justice, truth, and healing.
Your Excellency, leadership is not proven in the silencing of dissent, but in the wisdom to listen and the courage to respond with humanity. A protest is not rebellion it is the voice of a people still believing that dialogue is possible, that their leaders still have hearts that can feel and ears that can hear.
Let not history repeat itself. Let this day, October 20th, 2025, be remembered not for renewed tears, but for restraint, reason, and reform. Let your conscience speak louder than fear, and let the voice of compassion guide your command.
Our youth are not enemies of the state; they are the strength of the state. Their passion, though often misunderstood, is a cry for a nation that works for peace, justice, and dignity.
I appeal to you both, in the fear of God and in the love of country, to remember that power is transient, but legacy is eternal. History will not only record what happened under your watch it will also record what you allowed.
May wisdom guide your decisions, may peace prevail in our streets, and may mercy reign over judgment.
With concern and hope,
Salami Solomon Salami
A concerned citizen and lover of peace
