POWER SUPPLY CRISIS HITS KARAYE LGA AS NEW TRANSFORMER REMAINS UNUSED FOR MONTHS,
By Hon. Kabeer Ahmad Yola
Residents of Karaye Local Government Area in Kano State have continued to endure over nine months of total blackout, as electricity supply from NEPA remains disconnected across several communities.
Despite the prolonged hardship, efforts to restore power have stalled. Although the state government recently provided a new transformer to ease the suffering of the people, the equipment is yet to be installed due to the absence of essential cables needed to make it functional.
This situation has raised serious concerns among residents, who question why elected and appointed leaders—including the Local Government Chairman, the Honourable Member representing Karaye at the State Assembly, and the Commissioner—have not taken swift action to procure the necessary cables to ensure installation of the transformer.
For months, businesses have collapsed, small-scale entrepreneurs have suffered heavy losses, students have struggled to study at night, and households have been left in darkness. The people of Karaye are asking: why should a basic issue such as purchasing installation cables prevent an entire local government from enjoying electricity?
Hon. Kabeer Ahmad Yola, former House of Representatives Candidate in the 2023 General Election and current aspirant for the State Assembly, Karaye Constituency under the ADC for 2027, has called for urgent intervention. He emphasized that governance must be responsive and people-centered, not silent in the face of avoidable hardship.
“The people of Karaye deserve light. They deserve leadership that responds promptly to their needs. Electricity is not a luxury—it is a necessity for economic growth, security, and development,” he stated.
Residents now await immediate action from the relevant authorities to ensure that the new transformer is installed without further delay and that power is fully restored to Karaye Local Government Area.
Signed:
Hon. Kabeer Ahmad Yola
Former House of Representatives Candidate (2023)
Aspirant, State Assembly Karaye Constituency (ADC 2027)
