As reported by Daily Post, Timi Frank, the former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), criticized President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday for traveling to the United Kingdom for a state visit while devastating bomb attacks in Maiduguri resulted in over 23 deaths and many injuries.
Although Tinubu's trip was at the invitation of King Charles III, Frank argued that the timing was highly inappropriate given the national tragedy.
In his response to the attacks, Frank referred to the bombings as “a tragic, blood-soaked verdict on a failing security architecture in the country.”
He condemned Tinubu’s decision to leave Nigeria during such a critical time, calling it “a cruel abandonment of grieving citizens.”
Frank emphasized that a compassionate leader would stay in Maiduguri to support the victims and their families instead of going abroad for official duties.
“No responsible leader boards a plane to wine, dine, and dance when his country is burying its dead,” he said.
An empathetic President visits Maiduguri instead of London, aligning himself with the victims rather than those hosting lavish events.
Frank also pointed out that the UK understands Nigeria's current security issues, implying that Tinubu's state visit could be seen as tone-deaf by both local and global audiences.
"The UK is well aware of Nigeria's situation," he noted, stressing that leaders should focus on the safety and well-being of their people rather than on formal duties overseas.
