Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force attached to the Mobile Police Force 42 Police Mobile Force (PMF), Gusau, have intercepted a suspected arms courier transporting a large cache of ammunition in Zamfara State.
According to security sources, the incident occurred on March 10, 2026, at about 7:30 p.m. at Yankara Point, a border area between Zamfara State and Katsina State.
The suspect, identified as Mannir Adam, 25, a male resident of Yankuzo Village in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, was reportedly intercepted by a police team led by ASP Goma Ibrahim, Unit Commander of the Mine Unit stationed at the border checkpoint.
Police sources disclosed that the suspect was riding a red Boxer motorcycle from Unguwar Bawa in Saminaka Local Government Area of Kaduna State, heading towards Kucheri Village in Tsafe LGA, Zamfara State, when he was stopped for routine security checks.
During a thorough search of the motorcycle, officers discovered 800 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 live ammunition carefully concealed inside the fuel tank of the motorcycle.
The suspect was immediately arrested along with the recovered ammunition. Both the suspect and the exhibits have since been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Gusau for discreet investigation and further interrogation.
Security authorities say the arrest forms part of ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to curb the proliferation of illegal arms and combat banditry and other violent crimes across the region.
Further investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the ammunition and the intended recipients.
Pictures of the suspect and the recovered ammunition were also obtained at the scene.
