The Delta State Police Command has arrested popular social media content creator, Ifeanyi Ogbonna, widely known as “Odogwu of Asaba,” over allegations of raping a 20-year-old woman, Favor Agbro, who later died after allegedly taking a toxic substance.
The Command disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.
According to the police, the arrest followed a petition alleging that the deceased travelled to Asaba on June 1, 2026, after the suspect reportedly invited her with a promise to train her in content creation, a programme he allegedly promoted on his social media platforms.
Police said that upon her arrival in Asaba, the suspect allegedly lodged her in a hotel where he was accused of raping and physically assaulting her. The victim reportedly returned home traumatised and narrated the incident to her parents.
The Command further stated that before her death, the deceased recorded a video in which she allegedly recounted her ordeal and the emotional distress she experienced following the incident. Investigators said she later ingested a toxic substance in an apparent suicide attempt and died despite efforts to save her.
Following receipt of the petition, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, directed the Area Command in Effurun to immediately commence a comprehensive investigation into the allegations.
Acting on the directive, police operatives arrested Ogbonna, who is currently in custody. According to the Command, the suspect has made useful statements during preliminary interrogation, while investigations continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case.
CP Oyeniyi assured the family of the deceased and the general public that the matter would be thoroughly and professionally investigated, stressing that no aspect of the allegations would be overlooked.
The Police Commissioner also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring that justice is served and that anyone found culpable would face appropriate legal action in accordance with the law.
The police urged members of the public to remain calm and allow investigators to conclude their work, noting that further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses
