The Egbema Unity Movement has commenced its historic grassroots tour of the nine clans of Egbema Kingdom, beginning with strategic visits to Jamagie and Ofunama clans in Ovia South-West Local Government Area of Edo State, as part of renewed efforts to promote peace, reconciliation, mutual understanding and sustainable unity across the kingdom.
The initiative marks a significant milestone in the collective effort to bring Egbema people together, strengthen existing relationships and establish a common platform for constructive engagement among traditional institutions, community leaders, youths, women, stakeholders and other critical segments of the kingdom.
The tour is aimed at taking the message of unity directly to the grassroots, providing opportunities for meaningful interaction with the people, listening to their concerns, identifying areas of common interest and encouraging collective participation in addressing issues affecting the peace, stability and development of Egbema Kingdom.
The historic tour was led by prominent Egbema leaders of thought including the Chairman of the Egbema Leaders of Thought (ELOT), Elder Edmund Tiemo, alongside members of the Egbema Traditional Council of Chiefs and the Egbema Regency Council members,
Their participation underscores the importance of traditional leadership, collective wisdom and stakeholder collaboration in rebuilding confidence, restoring relationships and strengthening the unity of the kingdom.
The delegation's engagement with Jamagie and Ofunama clans reflects a deliberate commitment to ensuring that the message of peace and reconciliation reaches every section of Egbema, irrespective of geographical location, traditional affiliation or community interests.
At a time when unity, understanding and cooperation are increasingly important to the future of the kingdom, the Egbema Unity Movement is demonstrating that sustainable development cannot thrive in an atmosphere of division, hostility, suspicion or unnecessary rivalry.
Rather, the future of Egbema must be built on mutual respect, tolerance, forgiveness, sincerity of purpose and a shared commitment to the welfare of the people.
The decision to embark on a comprehensive tour of all nine clans underscores the movement's determination to ensure that no community or section of Egbema is left behind in the collective journey towards peace, reconciliation and development.
Egbema's greatest strength lies in its shared history, cultural heritage, traditional institutions and collective identity. Every clan, community and stakeholder therefore has an indispensable role to play in restoring confidence, strengthening relationships and advancing the common interests of the kingdom.
Beyond ceremonial visits, the grassroots engagement is expected to encourage constructive conversations across generations, particularly among Egbema youths, who must recognise that the future of the kingdom depends largely on the quality of relationships they build today.
The movement believes that lasting unity cannot be imposed; it must be nurtured through genuine dialogue, understanding, trust and the willingness of all parties to work together.
The Egbema Unity Movement calls on all sons and daughters of Egbema Kingdom, both at home and in the diaspora, to embrace the spirit of brotherhood and support genuine efforts towards reconciliation and peaceful coexistence.
Differences in opinions, political affiliations, personal interests and traditional perspectives should never become permanent barriers to unity.
Egbema needs more bridges of understanding than walls of division; more sincere conversations than hostile exchanges; and more collective action than individual interests.
The movement's message is clear: Egbema is one kingdom, and its destiny must be pursued collectively.
As the tour progresses across the remaining clans, traditional rulers, community leaders, youths, women, political stakeholders and other well-meaning individuals are encouraged to receive the initiative with open minds, participate actively and contribute meaningful ideas that will translate the vision of unity into sustainable action.
The commencement of the tour in Jamagie and Ofunama is a significant step in the broader mission to reconnect Egbema communities and establish a stronger foundation for collective progress.
Ultimately, the success of the Egbema Unity Movement will not be measured merely by the number of communities visited but by the relationships restored, confidence rebuilt, divisions addressed and enduring bonds of brotherhood established.
The time has come for Egbema people to look beyond individual differences and embrace the greater interest of the kingdom.
