Delta orders clampdown on cultism in schools

By EgbemaVoice, Delta State Government on Thursday ordered massive clampdown on cultism and cult related activities in schools across the state.  The State Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu who gave the directive at a news conference in Asaba, said the directive became necessary following rising cases of cult related activities in secondary and primary schools in the state.  He said the State Ministry of Education and relevant supervisory and regulatory authorities have been directed to ensure proper supervision of all schools to nip it in the bud.  According to him, a number of persons particularly the civil societies have emphasised the need for parents to up their game and for the society to have a rethink in the management of our youths and young ones.  "But unfortunately there are also a number of elders, parents who obviously have not also lived up to their bidding with respect to monitoring the behaviour and attitude of their children.  "As a government

Adeboji Gives Reason Why IGP Still In The Office, Says He Was Appointed Not Promoted.

By EgbemaVoice,  The Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police, Muyiwa Adejobi, on Wednesday, gave reason why the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, is still in office, saying he was appointed by the Presidency and not promoted to the position. Alkali Baba was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari as the acting Inspector General of Police on April 26, 2021 for a four-year tenure. He was an Assistant Inspector General of Police when he was appointed as he had about six Deputy Inspectors General (DIG) above him. UK bans foreign students’ family members, work during studies

By Wale Odunsi  The United Kingdom has slammed restrictions on student visa routes in a bid to cut net migration, a statement on Tuesday announced. The policy restricts students from Nigeria and other countries from bringing family members on all but postgraduate research routes. The government also banned people from using a student visa as a backdoor route to work in the UK, noting that net migration was over 500,000 from June 2021 to June 2022. It reaffirmed its commitment to the International Education Strategy which supports the economy through the contribution students can bring to the UK. The government has also made clear that the terms of the graduate route remain unchanged, announcing the new reforms affecting students starting from January 2023. The UK promised to work with the higher education sector to explore alternative options to ensure the brightest and best students can continue to bring dependents.
