The history of Egbema kingdom -A true IZON (Ijaw) kingdom

Polobubo Community Development The History Of Egbema Kingdom – A True Izon (Ijaw) Kingdom polobubocommunity 4 years ago The ancient Kingdom of Egbema is politically split into the present day Edo and Delta States of Nigeria. Egbema Kingdom is bounded on the north by the Olodiama of Edo State and the Itsekiri of Delta State, west by the Arogbo Kingdom of Ondo State, east by Gbaramatu Kingdom and the Itsekiri of Delta State and South by the Ilaje of Ondo State and the Atlantic Ocean. The Egbema people are the most likely Ijo sub-group to which the allegation of Ijo piracy on the Benin River could have made. The only other sub-group with access to the Benin River are the Gbaramatu. Egbema traditions, in fact, give indirect evidence of their predatory activities in the region of the Benin River. While they refer to the Oba of Benin as Ugbo Pere (lord of the Lands), the priest king of Egbema was Bini Pere (lord of Waters). Apart from cultural and other relations with other Ijo grou...

Re: Edo Federal Lawmakers’ Opposition to the Proposed Toru-Ibe State on Account of Ceding Edo Lands

Re: Edo Federal Lawmakers’ Opposition to the Proposed Toru-Ibe State on Account of Ceding Edo Lands By Egbemavoice, Murphy Osaro Omoruyi and Omosede Gabriella Igbinedion Have Lost Touch With History The debate on the proposed Toru-Ibe State took an unfortunate turn yesterday when Mr. Murphy Osaro Omoruyi and Miss Omosede Gabriella Igbinedion offered submissions that were completely detached from historical reality. Their comments reflect a longstanding pattern of misrepresentation often used to diminish the rightful place of the Ijaw people in Edo State. Once again, some Bini political actors have resorted to their familiar tactics of distortion and calumny simply because the Toru-Ibe State agitation has gained national attention. Listening to both lawmakers struggle to establish coherent arguments on the floor of the House was a painful reminder of how far some individuals are willing to go to sustain a false narrative. Frankly, there is nothing new in their approach. Deni...

Egbesu worshippers, what is Asawana

izonbibiworldwide.wordpress.com WHAT IS ASAWANA?* Ijaw Religious and Cultural Studies *By Apostle Bodmas P. Kemepadei, Son of God* This is associated to " *Egbesu Worship*", although, the word itself, is a corrupted version of the root word " *Ossain/Assain Weni-gha?*", which prompts a response of " *Weni-ghe!*" meaning, *it will move and go with us or be potent*. *Assain*, also *Ossain* means, *Oracle, Amulet or Cosmic Energy related to a supernatural entity or deity*. Today, the word *Ossain* or *Assain-wenigha* has been degenerated into " *Asawana*", a new word entirely, created from the existing old one. The word is a very powerful chant that invokes the divine forces (supernatural presence, light or powers) of " *Egbesu*", as cosmic energy or light of the spiritual nature which helps one to express his/her higher consciousness, thereby liberating the mind from negative thinking; as it instills in the adherents, courage, deter...

Ajakurama Development Initiative Rebukes Edo Deputy Governor Over Misleading Claims on Abere–Ajakurama Land Dispute,

PRESS STATEMENT Ajakurama Development Initiative Condemns Edo State Deputy Governor’s Careless and Misleading Remarks on Abere–Ajakurama Land Dispute The Ajakurama Development Initiative (ADI) strongly condemns the recent remarks made by the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, regarding the long-standing land dispute between the Abere and Ajakurama communities. This dispute, earlier in 2025, resulted in violent attacks, severe persons injuries sustained by Ajakurama youths. During a peace meeting held at the Government House, Benin City, the Deputy Governor urged both communities to “embrace peace,” while asserting that the disputed land forms part of the Government’s Forest Reserve. ADI considers this statement careless, provocative, and a deliberate distortion of historical and traditional facts. It attempts to undermine the ancestral ownership rights of both Ijaw communities and misinform the general public. OUR POSITION 1. The Land Belongs to Ajakuram...
