...As HoS, Bayoko Bows Out

By EgbemaVoice,

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Saturday, tasked public servants to render service with integrity, diligence, and a deep commitment to the betterment of the state and country.

Governor Oborevwori gave the charge at the retirement thanksgiving of the retired Delta State Head of Service, Mr. Reginald Bayoko, held at the Grace and Progress Family Church, Asaba.

While congratulating the outgone Head of Service for his services to the state, the Governor lauded Bayoko for remaining steadfast through trials and triumphs and thanked God for sustaining him throughout his remarkable and illustrious career in service

Governor Oborevwori who was accompanied by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, and top government functionaries, said; "we are here gathered in gratitude, a celebration for the glory of God Almighty, for the remarkable service and well-deserved retirement of my brother, Mr. Reginald Bayoko.

"It is a moment of reflection, appreciation, and thanksgiving for a man who has given 35 years of his life for the noble cause of public service.

"In that 35 years, he was a permanent secretary for almost 10 years. In that 35 years, he was Head of Service for almost 10 years, almost 19 years and we give God all the praise.

"I always encourage people to cultivate a heart of gratitude, especially towards God. Today, people who have been in this service for 10 years, they want to be like Bayoko.

"They want to be like a permanent secretary. Why don't you wait for your turn? Because it's turn by turn.

"Some are due for retirement. They will not give space for the young ones to grow, they will change their date of birth."

To the celebrant, Oborevwori said, "you have run your race with honour, courage, and humility. You have not only led but also mentored and inspired countless young Deltans who now look up to you as a role model.

"As you step into this new chapter of life, I have no doubt that your work and experience, wisdom and passion for uplifting others, will continue to shine in new and meaningful ways.

"As we partake in this thanksgiving service, let us all be reminded of the sacred duties we hold to our communities and our state.

"Let us strive to emulate the selfless and faithful service that Bayoko exemplified throughout his career.

"In whatever capacity we serve, let us do so with integrity, diligence, and a deep commitment to the betterment of our state."

In a sermon on "Don't forget", Bishop Chuka Agwuegbo, charged Christians and people in authority to always remember that all they have attained and achieved in life were by God's mercy.

While congratulating the chief celebrant, Mr. Reginald Bayoko on his successful retirement as Head of Service, he described Bayoko as a wonderful and brilliant administrator who contributed his quota to the growth and development of the civil service.

He said man had a natural propensity to forget, adding that there were many Bible accounts of how men forgot God after making it in life and warned that the end was always disastrous for those who do not give gratitude to God for their blessings.

In his remarks, Bayoko thanked God for a remarkable career in the civil service and expressed appreciation to Governor Oborevwori and former Governors of the state for the opportunity to serve the state in several capacities.

The group also urged all ethnic nationalities in the Warri axis to remain calm and united as the region moves forward in peace and development. The fresh delineation exercise, conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), was ordered by the Supreme Court after decades of agitation by the Ijaw and Urhobo communities. These ethnic groups have long decried the systemic underrepresentation they faced in local governance structures despite being indigenous stakeholders in the Warri North, Warri South, and Warri South-West Local Government Areas of Delta South Senatorial District. According to Comrade Mingo Meshach Sayami, the National Coordinator of the Egbema Focus Group, the injustice against the Egbema peopl...

Breaking News! INEC Validates Ijaw Dominance in Ward Delineation Across Warri Federal Constituency.

By EgbemaVoice, The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has affirmed the Ijaws of Egbema and Gbaramatu kingdoms as the most populous ethnic groups within Warri North and Warri South-West Local Government Areas (LGAs), following a review of ward delineation in the Warri Federal Constituency. The exercise followed a protracted legal process instituted by the Ijaws over pseudo and non-existent wards manipulated by the Itsekiris to gain undue political advantage in the three Warri LGAs. The Supreme Court verdict compelled INEC to undertake a fresh ward delineation exercise in the Warri Federal Constituency to reflect reality on the ground. In compliance with the court ruling, INEC conducted a fresh ward delineation exercise that validates Ijaw population dominance in the LGAs.  This result has serious implications for who becomes the next LGA chairman, especially in Warri North, where the Itsekiri had manipulated all appointive and elective positions to the det...

They also voiced strong opposition to any perceived misuse of the Federal Governmentโ€™s pipeline surveillance contract awarded to High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo. โ€œWe will not allow Tompolo to use his surveillance contract to suppress or threaten our community,โ€ one of the protesters warned. By EgbemaVoice, Prominent traditional chiefs, youth leaders, and stakeholders of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom in Warri have openly disassociated themselves from a press conference held on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, describing it as unauthorized and lacking the blessing of the kingdomโ€™s traditional institution. The controversial briefing followed the ward delineation recommended for Warri Federal Constituency by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The purported press conference, which took place in Warri, was led by Hon. Matthew Poko Opuoru, a former member of the Delta State House of Assembly and the current Special Adviser on Environment to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. Delineation refers to the process of dividing or mapping out geographical areas into constituencies, wards, or polling units for electoral purposes. EGBEMA FOCUS GROUP CONDEMNS ATTACK ON IJAW YOUTH ABEKI IN WARRI By Egbemavoice, The Egbema Focus Group (EFG) strongly condemns the recent brutal attack on Mr. Abeki, a young Ijaw man and tricycle rider, as well as the gun assault on the Olabrakeopre Ijaw Warri Urban Community. We are deeply concerned by the growing reports of intimidation and violence targeting Ijaw people in Warriโ€”particularly the youthโ€”who have long contributed to the growth and stability of the Niger Delta. The EFG calls on security agencies to immediately launch a thorough invest...

Edo Kingship Tussle: Niger Delta Youth Leader Condemns Oba of Beninโ€™s Attempts to Control Other Ethnic Groups, Iganke,

By Egbemavoice, The Niger Delta Youth Leader has strongly condemned the actions of the Oba of Benin, calling them unethical, untraditional, and unconstitutional. The Obaโ€™s alleged attempt to assert authority over other ethnic nationalities in Edo State, particularly the Ika people of Iganke Ndi Eze, is viewed as an abominable act, not only in the Niger Delta but in Nigeria and Africa as a whole. Recently, the Oba of Benin reportedly ordered the people of Iganke Ndi Eze to submit to the authority of an Odiower under his leadership. However, the Ika people have no historical or cultural ties to the Bini tribe, aside from being part of the same state, Edo. This act is seen as an overreach of traditional authority and a violation of Nigeriaโ€™s constitutional provisions. In Nigeria, traditional rulers serve as custodians of their ethnic groupโ€™s culture and norms, but they do not hold constitutional powers. The country operates under a presidential system of government...

This peaceful gathering reflects the unified voice of the Ijaw people, acknowledging INECโ€™s commendable role as a fair and impartial institution committed to upholding the rule of law. We are especially thankful for INECโ€™s faithful implementation of the Supreme Courtโ€™s judgment regarding the ward delineation in Warri Federal Constituency โ€” a matter of deep historical and political significance. The Courtโ€™s decision corrected decades of imbalance and marginalization, ensuring the Ijaw population, long underrepresented despite their significant presence, now receives fair and just recognition. The Supreme Court reaffirmed the principles of equity an...
