Retired Nigeria Police SP Expresses Heartbreak Over Pension Payout
A retired Superintendent of Police (SP) has sparked widespread concern with a video he shared online, shedding light on the challenges of the Nigeria Police Contributory Pension Scheme. According to the retired officer, who opted to remain anonymous, he was informed by the pension company that he would receive a total payout of ₦3,000,000, comprising ₦1,000,000 in arrears and ₦2,000,000 as his pension. This comes after 35 years of dedicated service to the Nigeria Police Force. The officer, who retired in 2023, expressed frustration and disappointment with the sum.
In the video, the retired SP lamented the inadequacy of the payout, especially considering the rising cost of living and the financial responsibilities retirees face. He described the situation as deeply disheartening and called on the Inspector General of Police, members of the National Assembly, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address the evident flaws in the contributory pension scheme.
The officer also urged Nigerians to share his video widely, hoping to draw attention to the plight of retired police officers, many of whom struggle financially despite their years of service.
This incident has reignited public discourse about the welfare of police officers in Nigeria, with many advocating for reforms to the pension system to ensure a dignified retirement for those who have dedicated their lives to the nation’s security.
