Hon. David Osia Felicitates With High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo (Tompolo) on Honourary Doctorate Award
By EgbemaVoice,
Hon. David Osia, a prominent youth leader in Olodiama Kingdom and former Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, has congratulated High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo (GOC), on his conferment of the Honorary Doctor of Laws, LL.D (Honoris Causa) by Edwin Clark University, Kiagbodo, during the institution’s combined 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th Convocation Ceremonies held in Kiagbodo Town, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.
Comrade Osia described the honour as “well-deserved,” noting that Tompolo’s immense contributions to the Niger Delta and the Ijaw nation continue to shape national development. He recalled Tompolo’s critical role in the Niger Delta agitation between the late 1990s and 2007, stressing that his leadership paved the way for key national achievements, including:
Creation of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs
Establishment of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC)
Formation of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP)
Setting up of the Socio-Economic Council for Coastal States
Improved security of critical national assets
He further noted that Tompolo remains “a unifying force in Ijaw land and the Niger Delta at large,” adding that his service to the region continues to speak for itself.
Hon. Osia also highlighted Tompolo’s commitment to humanitarian and educational development through the Tompolo Foundation, founded in 2012, which provides scholarships, rural healthcare, disaster relief, and welfare support across the Niger Delta. He commended Tompolo’s role as a pillar behind the Nigeria Maritime University, as well as his leadership as Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited and his revered title as the Ibe-Ebidouwei of Ijaw Nation.
“GOC is the light of the Niger Delta and the pride of the Ijaw nation. I urge the entire region to stand by him, pray for him, and continue to support his efforts for peace, development, and unity,” Osia stated.
