By EgbemaVoice,
Public Affairs Analyst, Shehu Mahdi has said former President Goodluck Jonathan would today feel vindicated by unfolding political and security developments in Nigeria, ten years after he left office.
Mahdi made the remark during an interview on Channels Television, where he reflected on Jonathan’s exit from power and the controversies that surrounded his administration.
According to Mahdi, many of the criticisms and political pressures Jonathan faced while in office have resurfaced in similar or even more intense forms under successive governments. He argued that the challenges that were once used to discredit the former president are now confronting those who spearheaded the campaigns against him.
“10 years down the line, Jonathan must be laughing in his private bedroom now. 10 years down the line, Jonathan will feel vindicated now,” Mahdi said, suggesting that the former leader may look back at the political events of the last decade with a sense of justification.
Mahdi noted that Jonathan endured significant political attacks, including accusations of incompetence and alleged mishandling of national security. However, he said many Nigerians have begun re-evaluating that period in light of present-day realities, which have exposed the extent to which political propaganda influenced public perception during Jonathan’s tenure.
The analyst emphasized that Jonathan’s peaceful concession in 2015, despite what he described as political blackmail, positioned him as a symbol of democratic maturity in Africa. He added that the former president’s restraint and commitment to national stability continue to shape discussions about leadership responsibility in Nigeria.
