NBA'S SUIT SEEKING THE UPGRADE OF LAWYERS IN THE EMPLOYMENT OF THE NIGERIA POLICE FORCE ADJOURNED FOR JUDGMENT
Hon. Justice O.Y. Anuwe of the National Industrial Court, Abuja Judicial Division has adjourned for judgment Suit No: NICN/ABJ/264/2025 Between: Incorporated Trustees, Nigerian Bar Association v. Police Service Commission & 5 Ors seeking the upgrade of lawyers in the employment of the Nigeria Police Force to specialist cadre.
Olukunle O. Edun, SAN, leading Austin J. Otah, Esq., Bulus Atsen, fsi, Esq., and Vincent Adodo, Esq. adopted the Originating Summons and other processes.
Counsel to the Police Service Commission, Mr. Okoro Nnachi, Esq. moved his Preliminary Objection challenging the competence of the suit and adopted his processes filed in opposition to the Originating Summons.
ACP Rimamsomte Ezekiel, Esq., who appeared for the 2nd - 5th Defendants (Nigeria Police Force) also adopted his processes in opposition to the suit.
Abubakar Nuhu, Chief State Counsel in the Federal Ministry of Justice, who represented the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation, adopted his Written Address. He urged the Court to apply the provisions of Section 18 (9) and (11) of the Nigeria Police (Establishment) Act 2020, Force Order 137 of the Ratified Force Order of the Nigeria Police Force and Paragraph 8(1) and (2) of the Rules of Professional Conduct, 2023, in an equitable manner. He noted that other professionals such as Doctors and Engineers are automatically converted to specialist cadre in the police once they acquire their professional qualifications.
After the proceedings which lasted about three hours, the Honourable Court reserved judgment to a date to be communicated to the parties.
