THE HISTORICAL VISIT BY THE OBA OF BENIN TO THE PALACE OF THE AGADAGBA OF EGBEMA

this are the words of your Oba through his delegates 

This piece is just an appraisal of the recent visit by a delegation of the Oba of Benin Oba Ewuare the second led by Chief Colonel Paul Ogbebor rtd who visited the Palace with two Chiefs from kingdom of the hinterland.
In delivering the message Colonel Paul rtd stated as follows;
" the Oba has sent me and my colleagues on a peace tour to all the Ijaw kingdoms in Edo State as neighbours from the ancient times. We have worked and lived together as partners from time immemorial. Egbema is one of the oldest kingdoms and we worked together over the years to conquer so many states up to Lagos with the help of the Agadagba of Olodiama (Ikoro)
He led the war to Benin republic and to Dahomey. Today there is a town named after the king as OBANIKORO in Lagos State.
Gelegele has been a trade route from 1462 where the Portuguese visited Benin Kingdom and even more recently in 1897 when the great Oba Ovoranmwen was taken captive to Calabar.
If our fore fathers worked together to achieve such feet why can't we do more?
The Oba of Benin's first project to the government was the Gelegele Sea port, this was also the biggest project in the mind of the Governor of Edo State.This project when completed can only be compared to that of Portharcourt because it will be bigger than that of Warri.
I have worked in this area for over 40 years during my active years in the military and my Father worked at Ugbine, Edo, Nigeria as a Court Clerk and married a lady from Ikoro and gave birth to children whom I met with during my visit to the palace at Ikoro.
Please the Oba has asked me to come seek the Agadagba of Egbema to work with him to achieve the desired peace to bring development to our people".
 Brief Reaction from the Agadagba of Egbema.
" this message is different from the story we read on papers and other media where the Ijaws in Edo State are referred to as settlers in their own God given land. If the message is that of peace then we can be partners in progress, you can see the warm welcome you received from our people, this shows that we are peace loving people though our terrain and the constant oppression, marginalisation and underdevelopment has left us with the tag of troublesome people. The Ijaws are one not even the rivers you see here can divide us, a scratch on Gelegelegbene is an affront on the entire Ijaw race and we shall defend it with all we have. We have received your message as a message of peace and same shall be honoured if we see the level of seriousness on your part in the area of infrastructural development, employment and in political development. "
