Rivers Dilemma: Egbema Focus Group Condemns Wike's Insults on Ijaw Nation, Disappointed on Ijaw law makers,
By EgbemaVoice,
The Egbema Focus Group (FEG), also known as Egbema United Front, comprising members from Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Imo States, has strongly criticized recent remarks by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, which they perceive as an insult to the Ijaw nation.
Speaking on Sunday, the group's founder, Comrade Mingo Meshach Sayami Ogumaka, expressed his disappointment and disapproval of Wike's alleged comments. He described the situation as unacceptable, particularly given Wike's political rise, which was significantly supported by the Ijaw people.
Comrade Mingo lamented the role of some Ijaw lawmakers, particularly those representing constituencies in Rivers State, accusing them of compromising the rights and dignity of the Ijaw nation. "It is disgraceful that Ijaw sons would support a non-Ijaw individual to insult the Ijaw nation. This betrayal is deeply shameful," he said.
The group emphasized the historical and cultural significance of the Ijaw people, the fourth-largest ethnic group in Nigeria and a majority ethnic group in the Niger Delta region. They called on the nine local government representatives supporting Wike to reflect on their actions, stating that their behavior undermines the unity and pride of the Ijaw people.
The Egbema Focus Group charge Wike to reflect on his actions and make amends by offering a public and sincere apology to the Ijaw nation. "This is not just about words; it is about restoring dignity and respect to a people who have stood by him in the past," the group emphasized.
Egbema Focus Group urged all Ijaw stakeholders, political leaders, and representatives to prioritize the defense of Ijaw heritage and unity, warning against any further actions or alliances that could bring dishonor to the Ijaw nation.
