The winner of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, House of Representatives primary for Warri Federal Constituency, Comrade (Chief) Sheriff Mulade has threatened to sue the party for N5 billion over alleged substitution of his candidacy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Ibe-Sorimowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom and human rights activist, who won the NDC primary, said he was shocked by the party’s decision to jettison the primary outcome for “selection based on highest bidder nomination form sales.”
“We boarded the NDC vehicle thinking it was a saviour for Nigeria. Now it looks like ‘one chance’ gambling with Nigerians’ future,” he said.
While expressing respect for NDC National Leader Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, he accused party leaders of being overwhelmed by financial influence from “certain Nigerians” through donations and nomination form sales.
“NDC cannot ‘appoint’ a flagbearer when a winner has emerged from a lawful and valid primary. Nigerians are tired of parties that trick them every election cycle,” he stated.
He urged the NDC leadership to retrace its steps and uphold integrity if it wants to win in 2027. “NDC is at the threshold of history to redeem its image. I still believe it can be a veritable vehicle for salvaging our battered country,” he added.
