EGBEMA KINGDOM — Youth leader, Comrade Fred Waresah, has strongly cautioned Mr. Goodluck Ojusin over what he described as alleged insulting, disparaging and disrespectful remarks against the Bolowei of Egbema Kingdom, Hon. Emmanuel Omoko, popularly known as Alhaji.
Comrade Waresah, reacting to statements and social media activities allegedly attributed to Ojusin, condemned what he described as an unacceptable trend of using social media platforms to attack, insult and make serious allegations against respected leaders without first seeking clarification, verification or engaging the appropriate community structures.
According to the youth leader, disagreement over community leadership or political positions is not a justification for personal insults or attacks against the traditional leadership of Egbema Kingdom.
He particularly expressed concern over an alleged social media campaign carrying the slogan “Omoko Must Go”, as well as allegations attributed to Mr. Ojusin concerning the management of funds meant for Opuama community.
Comrade Waresah stressed that such allegations are serious and should not be made publicly without verifiable facts and evidence.
Nobody is stopping any son or daughter of Opuama from contesting any legitimate community position. Everyone has the right to aspire to leadership. But exercising that right must be done with respect, responsibility and within the bounds of the law.
He further warned that social media must not become a platform for character assassination, insults, intimidation or the circulation of unverified allegations against Egbema leaders.
Comrade Waresah has consequently given Mr. Goodluck Ojusin 24 hours to publicly retract the alleged offensive statements and tender an unreserved public apology to the Bolowei of Egbema Kingdom, Hon. Emmanuel Omoko, and Hon. Spencer Okubo Okpeye.
He warned that failure to comply within the stated period would compel him to pursue what he described as appropriate legal action over the alleged statements and conduct.
The youth leader maintained that Egbema sons and daughters have a responsibility to protect the dignity, peace and unity of the kingdom, stressing that leadership disagreements should be resolved through dialogue, evidence and established community processes rather than insults and online confrontation.
He called on youths and community members to exercise restraint and verify information before publishing or sharing allegations on social media.
“Enough is enough of reckless insults against our leaders. We may disagree with our leaders, we may question decisions and we may demand accountability, but such demands must be made responsibly, respectfully and based on facts. Egbema must not become a place where social media is used to destroy the reputation of our leaders,” Waresah stated.
He urged all parties involved in the Opuama leadership issues to embrace dialogue and peaceful resolution in the overall interest of Opuama Community and Egbema Kingdom.
