2027: Prospects of Chief Sheriff Mulade's candidacy, if elected
By Cletus Opukeme, Chief Correspondent, Warri
As the 2027 general election gathers momentum, one candidate, Chief Sheriff Mulade PhD, who is contesting for the National House of Representative under the political platform of a very new and unpopular political party, National Democratic party ( NDP) from the Warri Federal constituency.
The news is that the NDP candidate Chief Sheriff Mulade PhD is the talk in town by every well meaning stakeholder, including youths and women. He marshalled out just 7-point agenda of quality representation, employment, empowerment, human capacity development, infrastructure development peace and unity etc
His wide acceptance is the magic ward that sends fear signals in the Warri Federal constituency.
His campaign team is visiting stakeholders, traditional rulers across the communities in the Warri Federal constituency. He has visited the three ethnic nationalities on consultation visit with the Ijaws, Itsekiris and the Urhobos.
The consultation visit has intensified the political atmosphere, especially in the camp of the ruling political party whose candidate is an incumbent that is vying for his return ticket for the third tenure. This dream of the incumbent is practically slim and unpredictable as NDP candidate Chief Sheriff Mulade is working round the clock to truncate the incumbent third term ambition into the green chambers in 2027.
Chief Sheriff Mulade, PhD, candidacy gains momentum and he enjoys the support of the constituent.
One major fear among the ruling political party camp is the fact that Chief Sheriff Mulade PhD has declared publiclyis an independent candidate in the struggle to represent the good people of Warri Federal constituency. That he supports the Delta state governor Chief Sheriff Oborevwori's return ticket, one as his nameshake, second as a personal friend and thirdly following the governor's credible general performance.
Chief Sheriff Mulade's candidacy is a threat to other candidates in the Warri Federal constituency, following his pedigree.
He has a potential track record from the private sector as an accomplished community leader, environmental activist, philanthropist which has touched many lives, irrespective of tribe, religion and and gender.
Chief Sheriff Mulade could potentially translate his experience in environmental justice, philanthropy and advocacy into effective legislative representation in the House of Representatives, if elected in 2027.
The key would be how he applies these interests to lawmaking, constituency representation, budgetary oversight and the pursuit of policies that address the needs of Warri Federal Constituency.
Nigeria’s Constitution empowers the National Assembly to make laws and investigate the administration of public funds and government programmes.
One of the most significant prospects of Chief Sheriff Mulade, PhD, should he win the 2027 House of Representatives election, is the opportunity to transform his experience in environmental justice, philanthropy and advocacy into meaningful legislative action.
His potential representation of Warri Federal Constituency could provide a platform to champion stronger environmental protection laws, advocate improved welfare for oil-producing communities, promote youth empowerment and demand accountability in the implementation of development projects. Through motions, legislative bills, committee participation and oversight functions.
He could bring the concerns of riverine communities and other residents to the attention of the Federal Government. His advocacy background could also inform efforts to promote environmental remediation, educational opportunities, improved healthcare and sustainable economic development.
However, the effectiveness of his representation would ultimately depend on his legislative contributions, ability to build support among fellow lawmakers, commitment to constituency engagement and capacity to pursue practical solutions. If elected, his challenge would be to demonstrate that his longstanding interest in community development can translate into measurable benefits for the people he represents.
The central message: Effective representation is not merely about occupying a legislative seat; it is about converting the people's needs into laws, policies, oversight and tangible development outcomes.
Mulade's actual performance would have to be assessed against those standards if, he wins the election.
