A Management Committee Member representing Idegabagbene community in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State, *Comr. Okiki Kelvin Torwei*, has called on leaders of the community to explain the whereabouts of a solar street lights project allegedly executed by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
Comr. Torwei raised the alarm after signboards were sighted in the community indicating "Emergency Installation of Solar Street Lights at Idegabagbene by Sunny Zion, a project purportedly executed under the NDDC.
According to him, despite the signboards mounted in strategic locations, no single solar street light was installed in the community,
"I am a Management Committee Member representing Idegabagbene community. I am seeking an explanation from my leaders over a project done by NDDC and signed boards that show emergency installation of solar street lights at Idegabagbene by Sunny Zion. And no solar lights installation was done at Idegabagbene community," Comr. Torwei stated.
He described the development as worrisome and called on the leadership of Idegabagbene community, the NDDC, and the contractor, Sunny Zion, to come clean on the project status and the funds released for it.
The committee member further urged anti-corruption agencies and relevant authorities to investigate what he described as a ghost project aimed at shortchanging the people of Idegabagbene.
As at the time of filing this report, efforts to reach the community leadership and the contractor for comments were unsuccessful.
