Mingo Condemns Alleged Killing of Delta State Civil Servant, Calls for Immediate Investigation

Comrade Mingo Friday Sayami Ogumaka has condemned the reported death of Mr. Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a Deputy Director in the Delta State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, and called for an immediate, transparent and independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
According to reports circulating in the public domain, Mr. Adeda allegedly died after an incident at the Prof. Chike Edosien Secretariat in Asaba on Thursday, September 24, 2026. Reports have made serious allegations involving the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, his orderly and other individuals.
The allegations are grave and must not be dismissed or settled through conflicting narratives. At the same time, every person accused must be given due process, while the family of the deceased deserves truth, justice and accountability.
Comrade Mingo said the circumstances surrounding the incident demand an impartial investigation capable of establishing exactly what happened, who was present, what actions were taken before and after the incident, and whether any individual or institution bears criminal or administrative responsibility.
He particularly expressed concern over reports that Mr. Adeda may not have received immediate medical attention following the alleged confrontation. He stressed that this aspect, among others, should form part of the investigation.
«“The death of a civil servant within a government facility is a matter of serious public concern. We cannot allow allegations of abuse of power, assault or negligence to be swept under the carpet. The truth must be established through a credible investigation, and anyone found culpable must face the law.”»
Comrade Mingo also appealed to the Delta State Government to demonstrate leadership by ensuring that the matter is handled transparently and without interference. He urged the Governor, the Delta State Police Command and other relevant authorities to ensure that witnesses and evidence are protected and that the investigation is conducted independently.
He further commended the civil servants who peacefully expressed their concerns following the reported death, while urging all parties to remain calm and allow the investigative process to proceed.
“The people of Delta State deserve a government where public institutions are places of safety, professionalism and service. Government officials, regardless of their positions, must be accountable under the law,” Mingo said.
He therefore called on the Delta State Government to sit up and act decisively, not merely by appealing for calm, but by demonstrating through concrete action that the life of every citizen and civil servant matters.
Comrade Mingo extended his condolences to the family, colleagues and associates of the late Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda and urged authorities to ensure that the circumstances surrounding his death are fully established and that justice is done in accordance with the law.
