There was a dramatic twist in the Nation's Capital on Thursday as fearless Human Rights Crusader and former Presidential Candidate, Omoyele Sowore, led a mammoth Crowd of Pr*testers to demand total liberation and improved Welfare for Officers and Men of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Peaceful but loud Pr*test, staged at the Unity Fountain, Abuja, paralyzed activities as Pr*testers in their Hundreds chanted solidarity songs and demanded that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must pay Nigerian Police Officers a minimum of N500,000 Monthly and immediately Remove them from what they called the Oppressive Contributory Pension Scheme.
According to Sowore, it is a National Disgrace that Men who put their lives on the line daily, who face Armed R*bbers, K*dnappers and Terr*rists, are paid less than N60,000 while Politicians who do little earn Tens of Millions.
He described the Contributory Pension Scheme as a D*ath trap deliberately designed to punish Policemen after 35 years of Faithful Service, stressing that many Retired Officers now beg for survival while receiving N25,000 to N40,000 as Monthly Pension.
"We cannot have security when those who are supposed to Secure us are hungry, homeless and hopeless. A Policeman who is hungry is a danger to the Society. Pay them N500,000 and give them their own Pension Board like Soldiers," Sowore declared.
The Pr*test witnessed Emotional Scenes as Retired Officers narrated how they were abandoned after Retirement, with no Gratuity, no home and no dignity.
The FCT Police Command provided adequate security for the protesters, and the rally ended peacefully without incident.
Nigerians on Social Media have already thrown their weight behind Sowore, calling on President Tinubu to act fast and restore dignity to the Nigerian Police.
