By EgbemaVoice
The Niger Delta Youth Movement and Advocate for Resource Control and Regional Development (NDYM&ARCRD) has commended the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Samuel Ogbuku, and the Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, for what it described as a transformative intervention at Edo State Polytechnic, Usen in Ovia South-West Local Government Area.
4.8KM Road Network Delivered, Erosion Challenge Tackled,
According to the movement, the Commission successfully delivered a total of 4.8 kilometres of asphalt pavement within the institution, including:
4.59 kilometres of internal road network
A 205-metre dual carriageway at the main entrance. Beyond road construction, the project addressed critical environmental concerns through:
4.205 kilometres of reinforced concrete drainage channels.
A 32-metre by 900-millimetre reinforced concrete ring culvert, effectively curbing persistent erosion challenges
The movement noted that the intervention has restored access, improved mobility, and enhanced the learning environment in an institution that previously operated without a functional road network.
Youth Movement Applauds Strategic Development Drive,
The Founder of NDYM&ARCRD, Comrade Mingo Meshach Sayami Ogumaka, described the project as a “clear demonstration of purposeful leadership and strategic infrastructure renewal in the Niger Delta,” noting that such initiatives align with the long-standing advocacy for resource control and equitable regional development.
The group emphasized that infrastructural transformation remains key to unlocking economic growth, educational advancement, and social stability in host communities.
Call to Complete Udo–Ofunama Abandoned Road Project
While applauding the leadership of the Commission, the movement called on the NDDC to extend similar urgency to the Udo–Ofunama abandoned road project in Egbema Kingdom, spanning:
Ovia South-West Local Government Area of Edo State and Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State,
NDYM&ARCRD urged the Commission to re-award and committed contractors and ensure the immediate completion of the project, stressing that the road remains critical to economic integration, security access, and inter-state connectivity within oil-producing communities.
“Development Must Reach Every Community”
The movement reaffirmed its commitment to constructive engagement with regional development agencies, insisting that sustainable development must not be selective but inclusive—especially in riverine and oil-bearing communities that have contributed immensely to national revenue.
NDYM&ARCRD concluded by urging NDDC leadership to consolidate on current achievements and accelerate abandoned strategic road projects across the Niger Delta region.
