POLICE OFFICER DIES AFTER BEING KNOCKED DOWN AT GUDI CHECKPOINT

A police officer attached to Operation Restore Peace has tragically lost his life after being knocked down by a vehicle at Gudi Checkpoint, Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The incident occurred on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at about 5:22 a.m., when AP/No. 167840, ASP Ishaya Daniel, attached to 38 PMF Akwanga, was reportedly performing stop-and-search duties at the checkpoint near the Police Secondary School Nipping Point, Gudi.

According to a police situation report, ASP Daniel was knocked down by a white-coloured Toyota Camry with registration number ABC-182-AW, Abuja, which was allegedly being driven at high speed while attempting to drive against the flow of traffic.

The officer reportedly sustained severe head injuries and died at the scene of the accident.

Following the incident, the driver allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled to an unknown destination.

The deceased officer's remains were subsequently deposited at Specialist Hospital, Akwanga, while the abandoned vehicle was impounded and taken to Gudi Division for further investigation.

The Nasarawa State Police Command said efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the fleeing driver.

The Command also stated that further developments on the incident would be communicated as the investigation progresses.
